Kind of a wide ranging post tonight. The axle housing got loaded up tonight and is headed for Mitch the powder coat guy. The plan is to powder coat the tubes and use Rust Prevention Magic ("RPM") on the bare cast iron pumpkin. The springs are in the process of being broken down and I am tracking down a few small parts. These will also be left bare steel and treated with RPM.
On another front I wasn't happy with how the wheels turned out when I repainted them this go around. They had been painted twice and I tried to paint the face a third time without stripping. The texture built up too much and they didn't look right. I ended up blasting them back to bare and starting from scratch. They look much better now. Lastly, Darrell continues to make great progress. The hood is in primer and and has had the initial block out. He has also just about gotten all the dings out of the trunk pan. I paid Tom Fisher to do the sheetmetal work which included installation of a new trunk pan. When he decided to quit in favor of a career change I had to go down and pick up the pieces. One of his special parting gifts was throwing all the front suspension pieces and rotors into the trunk and new trunk pan with no padding. Thanks Tom, that was a real professional move. So things are moving along and Darrell is starting to kick butt. Just to make sure we stay on schedule I bribed his son and wife at the Tran Am Nationals. I also let Darrell abuse the Y88 a little bit and I bribed him with some of the killer Apple Pie beverage. In all seriousness, the Nats were great this year. Lots of great old friends and some special new friendships.
On the Black Car, all the body panels are in final prime and looking good. The body shell needs another round or two of polyester and blocking, but is also really looking SEXY. The rear axle is also moving along. Mitch the powder coat guy took a DA to the tubes after my sandblasting, and then did a powder coat primer. He has DA'd the tubes and perches again and they look great. The plan is that the tubes and perches will get powder coated, and then the cast diff housing will be left natural and coated with Rust Prevention Magic after it gets pulled from the oven. Here's a few pic's... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Are the rubber pads going to fit correctly with the perches being powder coated?

Thanks for the kind comments.
Here is a shot of the springs which are about finished. They've been blasted, and like many other parts I am leaving them natural steel. These have already been coated with Rust Prevention Magic. The smallest two leafs fit in the oven to heat them up before applying the RPM. The longer two I laid in the sun and that worked just as well. You want the part hot so the RPM melts and gets into the pores and cracks of the metal. I've got the parts from Eaton, and Norwood's reproduction clips, and hopefully will get everything reassembled this week. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I got my judge back from paint Sept 8th of last year and I made the show. Now between my buddy B and I it probable took us 250 hours to put it together. So its doable. I wish I would have had a extra week because some of the stuff on my car was not how I wanted it. I look forward to seeing it at the show done.

Bob,
For free room and board, plus some of that Apple Pie and Bourbon, I could probably talk MPR into coming up with me for a long weekend to help if you need some extra hands. Throw in some Corona beer and I think I can make it happen! BJ

The shell got a second round of primer today, now more block sanding....
The axle tubes and spring perches also got powder coated. It goes back in the oven to heat up tomorrow and then the cast differential housing gets coated with RPM. The tube stamping also got a rectangle of tape and was left bare. It too will get hit with RPM. Tick, tock... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Bob, I'm serious...if you need an extra pair of hands, I'm good at turning wrenches, fetching beer, pouring bourbon, offering advice and fetching tools. Call me if you need some help. I cook a pretty mean steak too.
