Default Don't Laugh: Dishwasher

I'm serious. And, yes, my wife is out of town...

So... Our dishwasher has a nice Pots and Pans setting. I was intrigued enough to try it out with my windage tray and valve covers. I was pleased enough with those results to run my timing cover and HO intake through. But here's my question: What about heads? I have iron heads and a trial fitting says they would fit. But my real worry would be the valve guides and valve seats because a small amount of mild surface rust is unavoidable given the heat and moisture present and the time it takes to get through the cycle. To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised how very little of this occured on the windage tray and the valve covers but still...

So, and I promist not to tell any of your wives, has anyone tried this? Anyone got a good reason to tell me not to?

Sam

That's it Sam I'm telling your wife!
You going to poison yourself & your family... Dubba!...lol
You've gone too far!...lol
Don't you have a car wash with a pressure spray wand for the heads or buy a small steam cleaner?
Your going to need compressed air to blow it all dry

X2, understand your frustration with lack of resources in Qatar, but the dishwasher
(I suspect you'll be buying another dishwasher soon.)

I've done it, no worries. When you get done, let it run a normal cycle empty.

Essentially, the big pressure washers we use to final clean heads, blocks and other parts is nothing but a giant dishwasher. Cascade or other detergent will work great. So here is the score card. Your parts are likely to come out just fine. Your dishwasher and marriage, not so great. Choices, choices.

Cascade for the win !

Cascade® Platinum™ ActionPacs™ clean burnt-on messes in just one wash, with no pre-wash needed.

Plus, Cascade Platinum dishwashing detergent is formulated to help prevent hard-water filming—keeping your machine looking fresh and clean!

Simply pop in an ActionPac and reveal a Platinum sparkle.

Rinse aid action rinses away residue and leaves brilliant shine

TIDE PODS! They aren't just for breakfast anymore.
While you are waiting on the block, be sure to put your spark plugs in the "self cleaning" oven

You don't tell her about car parts.....

And she wont tell you how she keeps the cat litter box so clean.

Damage to the rack would be my only concern with loading the heads in. Bent you could straighten. Finish/coating scrapped off would be hard to explain. Unless it's all stainless.

I've had rods in the oven, wristpins in the freezer, jig set up on the kitchen table to put pistons/pins on the rods.

So I'm good with using the dishwasher.

I know folks who buy used ones and set them up outside their' garages, right next to the old clothes washing machines (for shop rags). I know they use cascade. They look for ones with metal spray arms though.

I would think it would be better to rent an efficiency for an overnighter movies, beer, & wash thing.

I used to go to the coin op and do shop rags, but these days, those cheap washcloths at Walmart are inexpensive and work so good, if they get real greasy, I just toss them.

I still have a mountain of bath towels from the last Power Tour I attended! Perfect for car washing activities. One place I stayed, I grabbed a bunch out of the cleaning lady's cart even.

Anyway, yeah, not the one you use for your dishes, that's just asking for some bad karma, if not health wise, wife wise.
