It was on Facebook. The car lived its entire life in Southern California.

Yes. It's a good car that has been very well preserved SoCal car. Just needs a little TLC. No rust and all the #'s match.

I think the seller was a little overwhelmed with the interest and didn't want to hassle with crawling under the car etc...... He's 65 and inherited the car about 4-5 years ago from his deceased brother in law along with a couple of other cars including a '65 GTO...which he is keeping.. I was the 1st guy that picked up the phone and called and was able to look at the car in person.

It’s interesting this thread is just about ‘71 & ‘72 cars. I guess everyone acknowledges the ‘70’s with the dinky 400 CI engine (and some that have been replaced with beater 350 CI engines) are already destined for the price scrap heap....

LOL - Love you Norwood.

Clearly done out of respect for the 70 TAs. They're built with unique parts and are in a league of their own.

But other than it appears to sit a little high, it's a very nice example, color, and nice options. I like it.

what a great looking car!!

I am a little confused here, so maybe the more knowledgable in the group can chime in;
I thought that for 1970 a close ratio four speed was teamed with 3.73's;
But I thought that 3.73's were not available with A/C?
Maybe the M21(?) was installed at the time of the restoration??

...yes, I am catching up on this thread.

maybe my post was too brief;
The car linked was reportedly a 'close ratio' four speed car with air conditioning;
I thought the two options were mutually exclusive.

DEFINITELY NO 3.73 WITH AIR

3.31 OR 3.08 WITH MANUAL AND AIR...I'D HAVE TO DOUBLE-CHECK TO SEE IF 3.55 WAS AN AVAILABLE RATIO WITH 4-SPEED AIR OR NOT, BUT I DO NOT THINK SO

BUT , YES, I HAVE SEEN M21s WITH AIR CARS

my recollection is the following:

3.55 was the standard gear set;
if A/C was opted, and a four speed was selected, it changed to 3.31:1
I believe opting for both auto & a/c meant 3.08:1.

going another direction;
I believe that ordering the close ratio four speed required 3.73:1 gears;
I also believe that the 3.73:1 gears could be had without ordering the close ratio four speed (I believe I read that here).

My understanding was that if A/C was opted, only the M40 or M20 were available.

... but that's just my hair-brained fuzzy reccolection of what I seem to recall reading over the years.
I have no literature handy to verify any of this.

48 cars
(picture attached)

Huh!

I don't recall reading that before!
I really thought the options were not to be combined!
Weird!!

I think you are reading that wrong. 48 is the number of cars built with AC & Manual Trans at Van Nuys - not M21.

I'm pretty sure Jonny is right M21 with 3:73 unless RAIV - they got the M20.

Agreed - Jonny is correct. It was not possible to get A/C with an M21 on a '70.
There's an inconsistency in B-J's advertising for that T/A.

And on a related note, that T/A (at least as best i can tell from the pictures B-J posted), looks like a very nicely restored car. I'm not sure I've ever seen them have one that nice. Seller is brave to run it through at no reserve...
