I bought a 70 fire wall pad from our sponsor. I am removing the cut outs prior to installing it, but i have a question.
The pic above is where the pedal assembly mounts and the 4 studs go through the firewall. The upper two studs are obvious as well as where the brake booster shaft comes through the fire wall.
My question is I think I am missing one of the lower pedal assembly studs (driver side). The passenger one is the oval shaped hole that I have not removed yet.
I guess I need to cut in the missing hole, or am I missing something? Has anyone else had the same missing hole?

Definitely a difference in price between the two, but the more costly one appears to match original more closely.

I agree. I first was leaning to the higher priced one, but then it said it had the foil layer on the back side, which was not on the original one, so I chose the rubber jute version.
I will cut mine and make it work and move on. No need to drag this restoration on any longer than it already has!!! Lmao

Yeah, the foil between the rubber and jute isn't correct, but other than that I think it better matches original. Once again it's one of those deals where one asks: Why not reproduce it correctly in the first place?

I have a related question:




In the first two pictures the assembly manual says that part #1 is a washer, part number 3868762.
After an internet search I believe this is a mastic or sealer washer.
The third pic is of the InLine Tube foam washers.
I think I am going to make my own washers from strip caulk.
My question is: are the mastic washers 100% mastic with no metal backing? I think the answer is 100% mastic.

Never seen evidence of foam or metal washers when removing heater boxes, so I'd say just use mastic

Anyone have a source for this under cowl insulation pad, that is under the dash area?
The original one disintegrated during disassembly.
Ames does not seem to list it.

There is no known source for the under cowl insulation used on early 2nd-gen cars. REM makes a version for the 68-72 A-body but I was never able find it for F-body. Since it was only used for a short time there may not be enough demand.

I made a template from my pictures I took during the disassembly of my 70.
I called REM and asked them is they would sell me the material in bulk so I could make an under Dash insulation pad for my car.
They offered to make me one from my template, and then they will add it to their catalog.
Hopefully I will see their results shortly.

Here is my update on the 1970 under dash insulation. Please note my car was built 2nd week of June, 1970 at Norwood:


This pic shows the first prototype (on the left), made from the template I made from my disassembly pics. These were made by REM. I had them make it from their yellow fiber glass material. It ended up being a bit thick compared to the original material even though the material was very similar. REM said this fiberglass material would not be used on their production version. Once I got it and test fit it I discovered that they made it opposite of that I wanted. I wanted the gray side to be against the underside of the dash. So since I needed another one, I decided to go for the REM mastic/jute material. This is what they plan to use for this part.
You can see it on the right side in the above pic.
I am glad I went this way, because is more pliable and fits up under the dash nicer. I will post pics once I install it.





I am not sure when REM will have the part listed, but I am sure you can call them and they will let you know when and a price.

Here are some pics of the under insulation pad installed.
I think it turned out pretty nice. I do like the flexibility of the jute better that the fiberglass material of the first prototype. The mastic jute version payed down around the curves very nicely.
