'62 Catalina tire question
OK, so finally getting around to putting tires on this 4 yr project.
Using Arrowhead 8 lug drums and 15X7 wheels on rear from Wade @ BOP. Rear tire is a 255-60-15. I believe rear offset is 3.5" or in that ballpark, not sure. I have plenty of clearance between the tire and 1/4 panel on both sides, but about 3/8" between the tire and frame on the drivers' rear and only about 1/8" on the rear passenger side. Tires look great and really fill up the rear wheelwells nicely, but is 1/8" enough clearance between the frame and tire on the RR?. As you know the frame is straight and smooth at the top of the arch on these cars but would occasional rubbing do any damage? Dunno....?? With only 1/8" clearance I would think that going around a left curve that tire will rub on occasion. What's your thoughts?? BTW.. can't drive it yet as motor has not been started yet and no front sheetmetal.. Thanks, Jerry |

I think you've got enough clearance tho' a little rub every once in awhile won't hurt.
I've go about that much clearance on my Catalina and it seems to be all right. Jim

Thanks for your comments, Jim.....
Pushed the car outside this morning to look it over with the new skins and took another look under and in the daylight it looks like I probably got 1/4" clearance on the R/rear instead of the 1/8" as it appeared last night with my trouble lite. I agree with you, an occasional rub against the side of the frame won't hurt anything as long as it's not too often. Guess no NASCAR road courses for me!! Thanks again, Jerry |
