Default Poll on Diecast Cars

Was Wondering what you all thought about the collecting of diecast cars 1/18th scale mostly, I know a lot of them are expensive and I think its whats hurting the hobby as a whole, got an email from one of the big players in this (Supercar Collectibles), stating that the companies producing them wants to up the production numbers before they agree to make them from say 500 to 2500 or more, I myself think that's a great idea, more volume= lower prices! I don't care about having 1 of 500, as 20 years from now they might not be worth squat! I buy the ones I like, the ones of cars I loved to own, but most likely never will! what say you?

I to buy the ones that I like & don't always buy the ones just because they are one of ?. But I have to say I do have some of the more collectable ones , but only because I bought them cheap & i liked them, not because they were one of ???.

I've been collecting all scale [GTO Only] die cast for years.
I know their worth very little and mas productions are worth less but I still enjoy them.
I don't care about scale as much as I do the details. The MINT cars & GMP are pricey but the detailing is amazing on some of them.
Once in awhile I'll hunt & treat myself to some limited ones but most often have to ask myself do you really need another?

Recently had to do some renovation in the garage and packed up 500+ GTOs and have yet to secure/build a new display location

Thumbs up

Don't forget to take part in the poll at the top of the page, if you'd like to, I believe one of the guys from Supercar Collectibles is a member here, and they might be interested in the feedback.

I will have to admit that I got caught up in the collecting craze that started in the 90s. Before I quit I had amassed a very large collection mostly 1/64 scale. I would catalog them then pack them away in boxes. I displayed very few. About two or three years ago I got tired of them taking up all the space in my 6x24' storeroom with 9' ceilings so I sold everything but the Pontiacs to another collector. I took a loss on them but I did get enough to buy the Legendary interior and have it and the convertible top bought and installed on my 67 GTO. I still look when I am out but only buy Pontiacs.

I have several diecasts of all sizes. Sure I would buy more if they were less expensive, as long as the quality didn't suffer.

Limited production means nothing to me - I buy what I like.

Cars can be made cheaper, by having all the manufacturing in China with underpaid, poorly treated labor. I would pay more for a quality product produced by a fairly paid employee, especially if it were produced in the US, where most of the factory jobs have disappeared. Everyone wants cheaper and cheaper; At the same time, complaining there are few jobs in the US, and even fewer fair paying jobs.

I have collected a lot of scale model cars, especially 66/ 67 GTOs. I love purchasing them, inspecting the detail, and displaying them. Sadly they just collect dust and take up space after that. -Luke

BJs wholesale used to sell them for $10 a piece, but the price has gone up a little since I stopped buying them.

Actually id prefer they be made entirely in the US, but alot of the 1/18th anyways are not, reason I started this thread is about the "limited edition" aspect of the hobby, i'm told that the tooling/molds to make these cars are very expensive, (probably done in the U.S.) which is most likely why they are manufactured in china or mexico to help keep prices somewhat reasonable, but when your making only 250 or 500 or 750 of a particular car, you have to make your investment back hoping to profit with a short run, selling them for say $100 + bucks, if they made say 5000 or more you could sell them for say $24.95 or less, same car, same quality, more volume, more buyers able to afford them which would grow the hobby and the market choices hopefully.

Sold most of my 1/18 scale cars when I was out of work, and made money on most. Done buying toys, I want the real deal.
