I believe it was purchased and installed in the late '70's/early '80's and removed when the motor was rebuilt in 1983. It was suposed to be reinstalled, but due to a mix-up, the original Y cam was reinstalled with Rhodes lifters. The PO didn't know it until I saw him a few years ago and asked him why he used the Rhodes on the factory cam. He said he thought the HO Racing cam was in there all along and was news to him.

Wouldn't that be the HC-63? I thought the HC-62 was the high lift version of the stock SD(744) cam.

superdutybob,

From Ken Crochie...The HC-62 was a modernized version of the RA4 but with quicker ramps and a little more dur. @ .050" and .200" lift and a little more lobe lift. We had several tweaks of the HC-02/62 over the years, so I cant give you an exact # but most likely 232int/244 ex. with 465int. 469 ex. lift, and 139/141 deg. @ .200". I went thru all my old CamDoc files from 1990 , but didn't find one for the HC 62. Lobe sep was in the 113-114 range.

I recall the cam card was the same specs as Ken described above and it was listed as the HC-02, even though it was the SD version (HC-62). I think all HL cams were 10 degrees more duration than the factory cams they were meant to replace. I'll fing the cam card and post a picture of it tomorrow (if I can find it easily).

No, the HC-63 is a radical version of the RA4 design(230/240) with 242/250 duration @.050" on a 115LSA.
I used it in my old SD T/A clone and it was a street/strip terror.

Yes , the HC-02/62 WAS a modernized version of the RA 4 in that it had similar .050" duration but shorter seat duration (similar to the Pontiac 744 cam) ,more .200" duration , and more lift. The confusion comes in the listing of the grind numbers, where we designated the HC-02/62 as "grind # 744HL". Same with the HC-03/63. more, more, more. Grind # 041HL

Ken, I'm running , at least I have been running the Crane Blue print RAIV cam in my 462 (455+.30) & the best time in my 73 GTO with the 3:73 rear end gears & a 4 spd. M-22 has been 11.72 @ 119 mph. Which of the cams that are listed in this post ,,, because I now confused with the cams listed , which one would you recommend in my car to get a little bit more overall power & speed. I forgot to mention that I also have E-heads 87cc heads on the 462.

That is what I said it to be. HC-62 is a high lift SD/744 cam on the 301/313 duration. The HC-63 is the high lift RAIV/041 cam on the 308/320 duration.

I'm more confused now!

those are "advertised" durations Bob, to reflect the factory specs.
The HC-62 & 63 are produced with 10 degrees more duration even though the catalog shows them with factory "advertised" figures.

The HC-62 has 232/242 duration at .050. The HC-63 has 244/252 duration at .050. They are the same cams as the HC-02 and HC-03 accept they are ground on a core with the smaller distributor gear. I remember writing these numbers down when talking to Ken C. on the phone when ordering a camshaft. Thirty years later I was fortunate enough to meet him in person and have him sign my catalog.

Now I'm confused !
SDBob: had to look that HC-35 up in a 1977 catalog. It's a "cheater cam", a stock NHRA lift cam with a bunch more duration-generally in the 250 deg. range @ .050" They were all custom grinds and was probably optimized for your car. I have no specs on that cam on file.
PK : thanks for supplying that cat pic. Got those head #s for me?
L N: yes meaningless adv. dur.#s .
Rex: Look at Paul's catalog page shot. You have the HC-57. To get a noticeable Jump in power, I would use the HC-03.But they have been discontinued for about 20years. The closest commercially available cam to the HC-03 is the Crane 284571. Please feel free to give me a call to discuss your cam choices. 909-980-1451

Over 4800 posts to this thread (an average of 1.39 posts / day) and STILL no separate 455SD forum section . . .

Anyway, this SD T/A is local to me. Never seen it personally and until now I've never heard of this seller, but at first glance it appears to be a decent '73 stick car.

Rich, remember this was the SD that was flagged a few years back? I saved the VIN. Ask for pics of the inside of the trunk, behind back seat area. May want to inspect before...

I can't even remember what I had for breakfast. Thanks for the heads-up though! That's the one with the '70 style area behind the rear seat, and not the 73 right?

I see a lot of small details Lloyd. Who put that hood bird on. It's about 2 inches too close to the shaker. The PW switches are not in the right place like they were added later or a new console was installed. I won't continue.

At first glance it looks pretty nice though.

Without a pic of the hidden VIN, it would be interesting to see the shape of the door jamb stamping just below the strikers. Doesn't seem to have a good pic of that area. Not saying '70 quarters couldn't have been added to the car but if both had the earlier design it would be quite unusual.

Lloyd...IIRC that's one of the guys who used to hangout w TACH in early 2000's (can't remember his name) and his location is right on southside of westbound main drag of Old Katy across fwy I-10 from Katy Mills Mall

Been several vehicles advertised by same that make all of my junk seem like "Barrett Jackson's in waiting" pots of gold...just paint, detail, & slap decals on 'em...and they be worth $40 - $100K more

FWIW - guy I remembered, if the same one, was a decent guy...motivated to make a few bucks.
