Stainless Works now has a 3" chambered exhaust available for the 2004 GTO. The system is 3" from the two bolt flange back, and has dual straight through chambered mufflers. The system is mandrel bent 18 guage 304 s/s, and includes an x pipe and all required hangers and clamps.
Two different exit options are avilable-one uses a "wide oval" tip with dual 3" inlets and exits through the factory valence. The other uses dual 3" "splitter tips" like the 64-65 GTO. The splitter tips will require that the hole in the rear valence be filled.
MSRP on the Wide oval system is $699, and the dual splitter tip system is $799. We back our products with a lifetime guarantee.

Maybe PY needs to get into the market?

Is that your GTO? Any dyno numbers? How about the tone/sound? I might be interested in an after market exhaust system but I'm going to wait till I hear the stock GTO for myself.

Thats a bit ricey out the side because everyone knows the best place for exhaust is in the back wake of the car where it actually pulls the gasses out.

Ricey! I don't think so. That is how the 64-65 GTO's had their exhaust. I think it looks real good. If anything the twin pipes out the same side is ricey.

No. I wish. I found this on ls1tech.com in the GTO section. Seems that already aftermarket stuff is coming out for the car. I like that way it looks. Probably sounds mean, but will probably make it sound just like the TransAms with loud pipes. The stock exhaust system really does sound good and does sound like a classic GTO engine IMO. Lower growl to it than the Firebird/Camaro LS1 cars.

You do notice that duals on each side are possible, so I don't know why Pontiac did not do this from the start.

Well hang on... I though ricey was a term used that implied for mods that were based on looks before power. While I don't doubt the performance advantages of this new system, the fact that the tips come out the side instead of the back indicate looks (or sound) were considered before performance. There is HP to be gained at speed if it is directed into the wake of the car- back AND up.
Don't get me wrong, I think the pipes are very cool, but im just going on the rice definitions I was given

It's simple physics that applies to the known universe...
I know that race bikes have their pipes specially angled so that they take advantage of the vacume in their wake. It's not just the overall position but the angle of the tip that is important.
As far as race cars are concerned... what type of race cars? I'd be suprised if they didn't have their pipes stratigicly positioned. IF certain types of race cars don't- you may as well ask why did'nt early F1 cars have spoilers? Not because downforce didn't exist then but simply it just wasnt done- which means its only a matter of time
GTO_2004- I did'nt personally theink they were "ricey" just wanted to see if "rice theory" was just a load of sh*t or not. The pipes are cool, no doubt

Quite honestly, I can't think of many race cars that have the exhaust exiting straight out the back.
I can tell you that the vast majority (95+%)of the race cars in the United States have exhausts exiting out the side.
NASCAR (and they'll do just about anything to gain a 3 HP advantage) exhaust exists (both sides) in front of the left rear tire.

well wouldnt the advantage of side exhaust in nascar be so that when they get their whole ass pushed it would not crush the exhaust pipes. aswell as the horsepower increase.

Must be why my cobra is so fast, 2 three inch pipes right out the back, and noticed a significant increase when I put the tips back on the 70. Should I add two more scoops on the hood to correct the extra airflow from the four tips in the rear.

More then likely, there would be no vacuum pulling anything out of the back of the car. You’re trying to apply Aerodynamic theories that are not even tested or accounted for on a mass production car. There is a dead spot, or wash behind the back of a car. It is a very turbulent section of air where air rushes down from the top, and up from under the car to fill the void where the car just left. The effect, on most production cars is a section of swirling, turbulent air, not a continuous vacuum that would aid in "sucking gasses" out of the car. IMHO, side exhaust, if it makes any difference (probably not) may be tuned to be more effective then rear exhaust. Since you already have a continuous, uninterrupted air stream flowing, the tip could be angled to use this air stream to expel the gasses quicker. In either way, I wouldn't give this credit for more then a fraction of a hp. You’re still better off with a side exhaust before the axel (race applications), which will eliminate the sharp turn to clear the axel, making a more efficient system. As for the definition of rice, I thought it was a white starchy food?

Actually, they exist on the driver's side to avoid scraping the exhaust when the car is cornering at 150 - 190 MPH.
If they exited on both the right and the left, the right side would most likely scrape the track in the corners.
