Default Headlight repair + wire cleaning

I was removing my headlights tonight and managed to pull one of the terminal lugs off the post on one. Anyone ever try to solder one of these or repair one?

Second question, what's the best way clean tar and c##P off of wiring. I was thinking that bug & tar remover might work good without causing any problems.

Any comments / tips appreciated.

Bug and tar remover is mineral spirits, will not harm wire insulation. You can also use Naptha, or charcoal lighter fluid (or Zippo lighter fluid, which is Naptha).None of these will affect wiring insulation.

I have resoldered the terminal to the headlight before and it worked.
