I happend to tour the LBJ Ranch this past fall. Lady Bird kept that place in a time warp since right after LBJ died, then she died, and a year or so ago, it was opened to the public. It is a real blast from the past to visit, really like jumping back to the 70's. There are tons of things still there from his presidency, such as Airforce II, and some of the air strip equipment, cool vintage aviation stuff. Lots of LBJ's cars are there to see as well. A pair of suicide-door rag-top Lincolns, a Johnson family '34 Ford, two 70's Town Cars, one of those amphib cars, and…his daughter's '65 Vette, an 18th birthday present from LBJ. Sadly, no Pontiacs though… --psw

Cool

PSW: Back in the '90s - Lady Bird was still alive - on one visit to same LBJ Ranch, those (2) white Lincoln Ragtops where behind the plexiglass IN THE car port you have the arrows pointing to. They've spent a lot of time and $$$ upgrading the area w the open air "hanger" and "carport" since I was there last.

Another visit: One holiday season @ the night time Christmas Lighting ceremony @ Johnson City, there was a recreation of LBJ's birth place - a shotgun style prairie home - where they were serving hot apple cider and homemade cookies. We were on the porch, and suddenly a car pulled up, two "suits" appeared, checked the area out, and then they lead Lady Bird onto the porch right to us. She was gracious, interesting to talk to, and naturally she was given the antique rocker to sit in on the porch.

Thxs for reminding me of that great Texas memory!

Wink

That's a cool Poncho 62Cat.

While shopping @ local big box stores I ran across these two yesterday:

1st was ironic to me as I parked my shopping cart that my shopping cart was at least 1/2 the lenght of this "Smart" - made me laugh.

2nd was this Buick Reatta Hardtop parked in the "HandiCrapped" space. It was old faded and appeared to be a daily driver...don't see these very often any more.

Talking "Rust Free Texas(?)" 1970 SS El Camino

I usually see this one while driving on the adjacent hwy "flyover" lanes...at least 2 to 4 times each day of the week. So, for this thread, I took the surface route and unfortunately I wasn't prepared for the White Audi R8 that was hauling a$$ down the "feeder road" in front of me to grab a pic. It was gone before I could pull up my camera phone...

I WAS prepared for this "Texas Rust" El Camino SS as you see it here. I quote "Texas Rust" because I often see this terminology used as descriptors for vehicles For Sale as if vehicles don't rust in Texas. What?

No back story on this one. I have seen outdoor personnel activity @ this location while driving by on the freeway. Don't know what the business is, etc. but still pretty cool to see an SS ElCo out there, yes?

Negative. The truck pictured was a "squarebody" so my comments were specific to the '73-87 bodystyle (C/K/R/V).

Yay!

For all the "Volt hate" I see probably 7 or 8 of around here them every time I leave the house. My kids and I always keep count . We're thinking of devising a kind of "slug bug" game, only maybe where we shock each other with 9V batteries or something...

2011 or 2012 model year shown. 2013 the roof and rear hatch become body color.

Note the improper Hwy parallel parking direction @ the red arrow.

I'd seen this "Flaming Pontiac" pass by in traffic several times. Talked with the owner; he's a machinist for and Oil & Gas Mfg.

"Art Cars" are a pretty common sighting here. I'd call this one: "Only a Mother Could Love!"

Cool

The Pearl Yellow Bentley below was literally driven by an Nigerian Oil & Gas owner at the OTC 2014. Note the Astrodome in the background.

Couple more ... I was driving into Sonoma CA when I spotted this 60 Caddy with a striking paint job. Stopped to take a pic and ended up speaking with the owner who had just finished painting it that day.

And speaking of Caddy's, check out this 59 rig in a car museum in New Zealand.
