Well if you can ride a dual sport motorcycle that doesn't even have a fairing, why shouldn't you be able to drive a car without a windshield? Also, the windshields on Jeeps fold down, so I guess there is precedent.

And you can ride a motorcycle in some states with no helmet.
Hey, there are no seat belts on a motorcycle either but I could get a ticket for not wearing one in a car.
And seat belts in school buses?

I see they even got rid of the head rests.

I just took another look, and noticed the door hinges. Why waste time unbolting the doors when you can just open them and back into a tree?

Default my theory

Either that or it suffered collision damage in the door area, enough to total the car;
but the owner had just had a new engine installed & didn't want to lose his investment,
so he got creative with a sawzall.

As for the debate about the windshield:
Don't you guys think there would be much more concern over NO-DOORS. That right there would get them laughed out of any inspection facility in the U.S.
Hell, never mind inspection, you'd get pulled over & impounded in 45 out of 50 states.

They've also eliminated all mounting points for shoulder belts. Since that car came from the factory with 3-point safety belts, I'd think that would automatically flunk inspection too.
And probably get you a ticket in states w/o inspection law.

Its that rusty bit of sharp metal that used to be the A-pillar. That combine with the possible lap only belt - that's just genius.

Clearly one of those "when it's your time, it's your time" guys. No reason for preventative measures.

Of course it's different because it's OEM, but you can take the doors off of a Wrangler and have been able to since forever.

Uh ! The early 80s trend for huge flairs

Reminds me of all those awful customized Vettes that graced the pages of Hot Tod in that era -

Not quite epic, but this isn't like any Pontiac 400 I've ever seen. Olds 403?

I've lost touch with him now but had a Pontiac friend back in the late 80's with this flare treatment on his 70 GTO and he was damn proud of it. I thought it looked like crap even back then!

Maybe if you put a toilet on top it will bring another grand to that mess.
