That would Not be good for the hood and nose. Even with Acrylic in the Lacquer now, it just doesnt hold up to temp changes well, and 200+ more hours of blocking and buffing .

From what I understand Darrell is not using the lacquer for overall body refinishing. I have seen some of his restorations up close and Darrell has a talent for being able to spray B/C with the look of lacquer. This is highly desirable vs the 1/4inch thick looking mop and glow appearance that most B/C finnishs have. Im certain that he is using it for secondary items, maybe he will chime in on how and why he has decided that this is beneficial to the overall quality of a period correct restoration.

No wonder a lot of original cars don't have the tire pressure stickers. Looks like a lack of adhesive on that one

many of the ones i have seen looked like they were made with something like a heavy stock construction paper, and stuck on with a glue stick...
the glossiness of the "decal" was a top finish, and the glossy part along with the imk would seem to flake off. that decal was a "rev 5"!? nice car, that guy is really talking it up with some half truths... i wonder why a car touted as so correct, would gave had the console removed (and the rather rare 8-track pedesltel added), a spoiler added, and those additional grille badges added... are thise trim rings period correct? (my knee-jerk reaction is that they're not correct)

Lacquer is very expensive because of the government fees but I still use it on interior trim parts and some under hood parts if were going for a "best of". On the Brewster 73 the air cleaner and such parts are painted in gloss black lacquer just like factory instead of the too glossy or too fat bc/cc or single stage enamel. gloss black lacquer doesn't exactly come out gloss black when sprayed properly, it has a slight haze to it till you buff it so I just make sure those parts are as perfect as we can get them, dirt free and leave the haze.

Darrell and his crew are getting a lot done on the Black Car. I went up today with MPD to drop off a load of restored parts and pick up the rear axle and spring assembly so we can get it stripped, restored and reassembled. The shell is now on the rotisserie, and the doors, front fenders, trunk, rear filler, and tail panel are in near final polyester primer. They are working the bottom of the car and Darrell hopes to have it in paint by months end. Fingers crossed...

Here's a couple pictures of the bottom. All roughed in with the first coat of primer. Darrell and his guys are knocking the cover off the ball. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.
We got the rear axle housing sandblasted today and it actually cleaned up very well. It looked pretty rough before blasting and I was worried that it was very pitted. It seems most of the rash was just surface rust and a build up of multiple coats of old paint. The housing looks great inside, as do the gears and axle shafts, which was a relief. The cast housing has a December 13, 1971 date code, and the axle tube is stamped the 351st day of 1971 which is December 17th. It is coded for a 3.42 rear axle which is correct, and shows having been built at Detroit Gear & Axle on the day shift with a Detroit Gear & Axle posi carrier. BTW - If anyone has ever thought about ordering a pressurized tank sandblaster for home or light commercial work, I would really recommend the Texas Blaster. I have had this unit for 5 years or so and it is flawless. Here are a few pictures... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Thought your car was a 12B build?

The Fisher Body build date is 12B, but the ship date wasn't until January 11, 1972 due to the special order Starlight Black paint. Thanks for taking time to check in.
BTW - How is the TA coming along? Did you take it to the Indian Uprising? |
