I got some NOS seat material from SMS Upholstery and had my upholstery guy replace the center section on the driver's seat bottom. The center seam ripped a couple winters ago when I made the idiotic move of kneeling on the center of the seat to get something in the car. NEVER DO THAT ON A COLD VINYL SEAT!
The NOS material was dated 1975 and matched perfectly. I have around 600 miles on the rebuilt engine now. Still runs a bit warmer than it used to, but eventually it should cool down (by winter time, I guess). Last edited by njsteve; 07-30-2011 at 06:39 PM. |

Gramma's Car Won the Year One Wheels!
Talk about a shock! I got a call this afternoon from Year One telling me that I won the contest give-away 17" Ralley Wheels for my Gramma's Firebird. I initially thought it was somebody trying to sell me something, so I almost hung up on him. Turns out I haven't been answering my Facebook notifications so they had to track me down from an old purchase invoice that matched by name.
https://www.facebook.com/yearonemusclecars Now I have to buy some rubber for these rims. Any suggestions? Last edited by njsteve; 11-07-2011 at 06:20 PM. |

Nice! If you decide you don't like those 17s, they'll look great on my 74

I like the looks of those specific wheels. I'm not a fan of the large wheel/short tire setup.
Give us a ride evaluation when you get them installed.........

Got the tires delivered over the weekend. BFG had a $50 rebate that ended Friday. Discount Tire had an additional $50 discount (which just conveniently happened to cover their "free shipping" which just so happened to boost the price of each tire to match The Tire Rack's price with shipping). I got the BFG 275/40x17 sports.
The car rides nicely, handles great and there is no rubbing whatsoever. Year One definitely got the offset just right to fit the second gen F-body cars. If I had it to do all over again, I'd probably get a taller tire like a 45 series, just to fill the wheelwells a bit more. The 275/40s are 25" tall, a 235/60x15 is 25.5" tall and a stock Polyglas F60x15 is 26". Here is the before shot: And the after shots: Last edited by njsteve; 12-01-2011 at 07:21 PM. |

Hey Steve - looks great, but I definitely agree with you about the tire height - needs to be closer to 26" to look right.

Quick question: how do weights of the new rims compare to the OEM rims?

Looks pretty good but needs a little more sidewall height for my liking. I wish they made these with a lip that more represent the later trim ring too!

Yeah Steve...I think you need to take those wheels off one more time and swap them around again before I can make up my mind...let me see it with the Honeys on it and give me two or three different angles this time will ya? After that we'll try it with the Ralley IIs again. I hope this isn't too much trouble for you - gee you're being a great sport about this.

A lot heavier than the steel 15 rallys with BFGs. I estimate maybe 10 lbs more per wheel/tire combo. |
