73 455SD Grand Am
Who was behind the SD455 project ? Did any other cars get a shot at a Super Duty type engine from G.M.

It was Herb Adams who got the SD 455 finally in production in the TA's.

Emissions laws, the gas crisis, insurance costs, and conservative GM management all worked together to kill it.

Wouldn't these have had the SD455 if they did produce them?
ALVIN.... No I don't own any and it sucks. It was a good concept. I love the '73 Can Am.

I bet a lot of 73 owners would love to have the rear spoiler from the Lemans Formula X!

I think in Popular Hot Rodding in the Tech Letters around 1987 showed a 1973 vin# with X and had the full vin.#

Do any of the Formula X cars or the All American still exist today?

Just curious if one or more of the concepts ended up in a GM warehouse or possibly out the back door to a VP?

No evidence of any of them existing...save for Tom Goad's '73 Grand Am wagon, but before he could take posession of it, Pontiac reinstalled the LeMans front end sheet metal on it. He just converted it back to its "test mule" status as a G-A after bringing it home though.

Tim at the Grand Am registry has a letter saying that the All American Grand Am was destroyed per GM orders.
