Great list on those color codes Jeff
I never took any time to try to relate the colors back in the 80's-90's when I was handling a fair amount of various 67 carbs. |

The stamped versions must be few and far between.
Or SR dated carbs. Only 2 on eBay are stamped One is a late 1971 dated SR 7037262 One is an obvious restamp for a 67 RamAir Firebird Numbered 7037276 without a date code or plant pick code. And its a Carter There is a Manual Sprint carb 7027269 with a Disc dated B7 Also found a couple with M 6 date codes. Meaning they most likely did skip " I " on the carb dates. I've been checking all 4 GM divisions |

Add to that, CALIFORNIA tags got a square center hole while FEDERAL tags got a round hole. |

Parts Place would do better to make those discs in natural finish , and probably round holes would cover more of the market correctly.
The square hole could be drilled round I suppose. Great info from you guys about the discs ! |

The original round disc on the '67 I sold last fall looked more red to me, but the chart called it orange. And by the looks of it when removed, I doubt that it ever had a can a carb cleaner touch it. Lol

Another item that seems "odd" to me is the use of a fan shroud on a non A/C car. The fan shroud was used on all A/C cars and also part of the HD cooling option (though some documented 67 RA cars appear without the shroud). This car does not have A/C or the heavy duty cooling option. I assume it was possibly added to help with cooling.

I didn't even ever notice the shroud on the car.
Believe there was a dealer service part made for the shorter Non-AC radiator. And I think they reproduced it - or at least at some point - in the restoration parts catalogs. Also seems like its been said you can put an old factory Voltage Regulator outer cover onto a newer replacement part. I probably have an old regulator on a parts car if that is true. |

The Original owner of my ‘66 GTO added this shroud shortly after he bought the car. There is one on eBay now for $$$. Below is the one on my ‘66 along with the MPC information.

Interesting. Learned something new. To be clear that shroud was not installed on the assembly line but was a dealer over the counter part?

From the best I have gathered , that is correct Mcronk.
But I wasn't even 4 years old yet when 67 production ended. So its been a perpetual learning experience |

My first recollection of a GTO was when I was about 13. A neighbor down the street was a salesman at the local Pontiac dealership and he drove one home. Best I recall it was a 67 GTO Signet Gold with a Black vinyl top. This would have been about 1970. As a kid I used to try and identify make and model of cars on the road back then.

Did you have any luck on a carburetor yet ?

This is the original Q-Jet that's on my '67 GTO, automatic A/C car, with the blue ID disc. The car was built in the 4th week of June 1967 at the Pontiac plant.
Yes, it's quite filthy. It was last rebuilt over 30 years ago, it's due. It still runs pretty well, but I'm sure it would be better with a rebuild. |

How do you decode the carb number and color? It is by application? For instance base engine/3-speed, base engine/4-speed, etc through Ram Air or is it by engineering change level, or is it by production date? I'd like to check my Q-Jet to see if is correct. Thanks.

For 67 carbs they follow the block code application.
Firebirds had their own block/carb codes to themselves. Sprint 6 carbs are in that list too (Abody & Fbody codes) 49 State GTO and 428 cars used 7027262 Auto - all 7027263 Manual - all The colored tags were probably done to aid assembly line workers from mixing them all up. Each application got its own color. |
