Is that interior a production blue?

The showcars that ran the circuit did not have a vin number issued and were to be destroyed after the shows were over. In 1999 I was at the Philadelphia auto show and I wanted to buy the 99 30th anniversary trans am that was on the carousel and when I looked at it closer it had the blue sticker with all 0000000000000 on it and the rep told me the car was going to be scrapped after the show. Maybe that's the answer.

It may be just the lighting, or digital conversion, but I thought the color of the interior looked a long way from production '71/'72 as well.

if I had known that slide was for sale, I would have paid $20!..I am definitely printing out some color photos..that poor girl is retirement age..notice how the front bumper lip is painted due to the metal valance...the white above the parking lights..in almost 40 years of digging the T/A..this by far are the coolest pics I have ever seen of a factory custom T/A...this car has never been mentioned in any Firebird related materials until now?..anything else have we missed?...I could do this to my car and it would be totally legit...there was a hoodbird for 71 and later cars!!..I always think more of the JOHN SCHINELLA story of it being the oversized bird first...whos idea was this?..if only there were more and better photos!!..I never thought I would want a hoodbird!!.definitely a car show car..I wonder how many actual from 70 to 73 were used for show purposes..'did you ever see the pearl painted 72 with special interior? could this be it..I thought that car had a small hood bird??? they did not just build a car then throw it away..they did recycle..look at the black John Player, went from a 73 to a 76!..they changed the quarters too..and that is definitely a custom coloured interior

Interesting that he car has honeycombs which I didn't think were available until January of '71.

I believe I have figured out what car that is, or atleast evolved into..that is definitely a custom blue interior..that is a GM design studio car that eventually ends up with a special white seats and door panels and the infamous SD-455..Bill Mitchell would use it as his ride and the car is still in existence, these show cars would get recycled year to year with grills, engines, etc. upgrades...please search BILL MITCHELL 1972 TRANS AM and tell me if you agree that this is the early incarnation of the Mitchell car..this is so cool!..that may even be a custom paint job on the car!!

Availability at the factory level is another world from public availability.
Pre-publicity or beginning of year model show/display cars could have anything on them - and maybe less than half of the new things you might really like when you see it - are actually made available to public on that model. If even any model at all . Check out the wheels and stripes on this pre-pub 70 GTO. And the color was said to be a pearlescent version of Orbit Orange. |

Thanks for all the posts guys! The car in question is definitely some type of show car with some subtle deviations from the production line examples. (check out the small triangle-shaped turn signal behind her knee).
I doubt it's Mitchell's pearl white car because his car originated as a '72 build on the assembly line, but it shares an uncanny resemblance! Now that we have this car somewhat figured out, back to the original question, according to HPP Facebook posters, some owned '70-72 T/As without stripes. Just wondering if anyone has actually seen a build sheet to support it? |

There's some bright rivets holding the spoiler together too. Strange... and awesome to see these pictures.

I think the side marker light is the production style (rectangular). It just looks triangular because it's partially obscured by the papers she's holding (in her right hand). If you save the picture to your computer and zoom in on this area, you'll see what I mean... James |

Is that pearl paint matching the pearl bracelet? That S-H Pontiac sign is interesting too.

I don't think it's Mitchell's car either because his was an automatic and this car appears to be a 4 speed. Mitchell's car has white leather interior as opposed to the blue on this car. These things could have been changed over, but I think this car was shown to get a feel for the public's approval of a hood bird. This car may well have inspired Mitchell's '72 Trans Am. Remember, the Pontiac designers were pushing for a hood bird on the introduction of the '70 Trans Am, so this car may have been part of the ongrowing struggle that resulted in the 1973 hood bird design.

I think the best thing that could happen here is that somebody in PA with a white '71 Trans Am - sold from the same dealership - actually tracks down this chick and has her pose in front of their car today with the same batch of brochures in the same outfit. Love to see if she fits into it still. She'd probably need to sit down though, her hip replacement surgery and all.
