A couple more pics, I'm guessing the wiper motor is stamped on the plastic cover, instead of the label like on the 69-70 ? Couple pics of power steering hoses and wire retaining clip on valve cover

Pictures are great, thank you! Not often a low mileage original car comes up.
My 68s wipers had the date code on the motor rather than the cover. Could you provide a photo of the Fisher Body plate?

When the tune up was done on these cars there were 2 idle speed adjustments. The solenoid was unplugged and the idle speed was set with the idle stop screw on the carb (seems like it was 450-500 RPM). Then the curb idle speed was set with the solenoid plugged in (6-700 RPM depending upon which transmission the car had). I can't recall if it was set in gear on automatic cars, but that is how the idle setting were done when a proper tune-up was done.
At the same time other GM cars had the same idle stop solenoids, and 2 idle settings. I know chevy used the same basic setup too. The hacks never bothered to do the settings properly, and that's when I would see the car, usually after someone else had their hands in it and didn't set the adjustments properly set. There was then drivability problems to be addressed because the adjustments were done incorrectly. Or hoses were disconnected, and plugged. If the timing wasn't set according the the manual, then the car would run poorly, especially with the advance retard cars. Usually the hacks would then rip all the vacuum hoses off, and by pass the emission equipment. The reason you almost never saw any of the 68-mid 70s cars with the vacuum hoses in place after the first tune up. I remember one guy brought his 71 Lemans Sport wagon to me after he had someone work on it, and it was running poorly. All the adjustments for timing and carb were all messed up. Reset all the adjustments, and it ran just fine.... If you don't understand how a system works, and the engineering, you tend to not understand how everything needs to work together to run properly. Then hoses get ripped off and plugged and the person that worked on it proudly tells you they bypassed all your smog stuff, because t will run better now that they eliminated it, not always the case though.....LOL I got a lot of new, and repeat customers when I was able to actually fix the cars that someone else had worked on previously. |

I have the same retaining wire for my 68 heater cables.
I remember trying to make sense of all the vacuum lines when I was much younger. Like most, I didn't fully understand the theory of operation. So I just disconnected and plugged the lines and ran a hose to manifold vacuum. Now that I do understand it, it doesn't mean it will be fully functional whenever I get the car running again. I'll figure out a way to have it operate on manifold vacuum while looking completely stock. .

Due to rough running engines and unhappy owners Pontiac deleted the distributor retard action in later production and earlier cars at service.

Wonder if that cable stay wire was used on AC cars too.
The temp control cable on my AC car makes a pretty tight bend there.

Tricky ... it's got that little hump for the wire to fit through. Wonder if that was a manual trans thing .. because of the linkage there.
