The disc Rear end in My Formula came from a 1980 Border patrol car, a flat hood T/A with a 350 and 4 speed. They were [probably "COPO" cars ( corp office builds) for the government. It was white, no frills but had ac, and a super T-10, and the 4 wheel discs.
I thought it was a 305 at first..it was a factory L82 engine, manifolds. came from AZ but was used in Calif. ( not sure you could even have a 350 in Calif at all in those days, anyone know?
Couldnt believe the guy parted it, but it was ugly and white and no rust! interior toast as expected.

Some more Pontiac Trivia: 1981 Buick 231 V6 equipped Firebird Formula

-After the Pontiac 265 V8 was dropped as the standard motor in automatic equipped Firebird Formulas during model year 1981, the Buick 231 V6 motor became the standard motor for automatic equipped cars. There were/are a few 1981 Firebird Formulas out there that were built with the Buick 231 V6.

All in all I guess my recollection was fairly accurate, not perfect, but not terrible either.

FormulaBruce, very odd 80 model, love to see the buildsheet on that one.

Since we're sharing some trivia, will relay right after my Dad & I took delivery of our early 80 model Turbo T/A's (late Oct '79), a young fellow a few blocks up ordered a new '80 Z-28. When he ordered it, he couldn't get t-tops & the 350 4spd, could get either but not both. That wasn't like it was in '79, could get them both. Thought that was odd at the time, but considering the holds I had on my '80 SE's build & all the correspondence back & forth with Pontiac, can see Chevy having their restrictions as well

This is good to know. For years I have had people tell me no such thing existed, even though I almost pulled the trigger on one that included phs a while back.

Heard alot of CA cars got Olds engine in those years because they ran cleaner for the emissions out there.

Pics of the two 1981 305 Chevy powered 4-speed Trans Ams that were at the Mecum Houston Auction this past weekend. The Red A/C equipped T/A got a high bid of $18K. The Gold non-A/C T/A sold for $13K. The Red car was in very nice unrestored condition (low mileage) and had the correct 5.0 designation on the shaker. The Gold car was repainted and had the incorrect 4.9 designation on the shaker.

I bought a 1981 305 trans am a couple of years ago. The original engine was replaced w/ a 327. It had road race america plaques in the glove box and trans am territory stickers on the rear window. It was a fun car to drive with the 327 engine.

I think the t/a in that vid would have been ALOT faster without all the "wheelspin"
