...there are Cream Puffs and then there is this 71...the question is, does it qualify even with all the changes and upgrades?...this is from the current Smoke Signals mag...

Yeah, I saw that one and wondered the same thing myself.
I guess my question would be, if the car has only 8K original miles from new, why make all those major changes? If the person wanted a modernized, street machine style Firebird, go buy another one with normal mileage and build it. So for my definition of "Cream Puff", nope, not even close. |

Well, when done by spring we hope (in the works), my 49K original puff will be very oddly desecrated. The only outside visual mod was pulling the 350 grille emblem, but that may go back on... so it will be the puff with T400, HO, sway bars. Inside the cabin the only change will be putting my old 73TA tach in the gauge pod and ditching giant clock. Nixed my urge to put a Formula steering wheel in, as the Custom Cushion wood grain matches the wood dash, and it helps the illusion look. Leaving the Esprit emblems on, I toyed with pulling them. I will love the, "yeah, it's just an Esprit" fun ahead.... kind of a reverse ego thing.... sleeper we hope.

Where's the poly valance??
Looks like the engine has been out. It seems way too clean underneath compared to the rest of the bottom. Do we want to start guessing the high bid? I'll say $15,500 to $16,000. |

Should bit to 19,700 ish...

definitely appears to have had a valance change?...or at the very least, if its the original, its repainted. my question is, would the poly valance cars originally have the lower flange on the nose blacked out say like a 70 or 71??....almost looks like this one has silver paint down there...

Yes my silver has same deal on valance. Metal one on it (warranty repair?). Paint on it is old lacquer, so old repair. and same, lower nose strip, no black. I am not going to put a plastic valance on, car see's Montana roads and durability is a consideration. So wrestling with putting an incorrect black strip on a 72 to match metal valance. Probably just leave it.
"other" silver 72 is at 14.5 , with 3 days left, so looks a strong auction (?)

Silver 72 went to 16,600 and then auction ended early, with one day left. See if new owner surfaces here....

Pretty sure this one's been offered for sale several times before, apparently with no takers. All the pictures are the same as last time.
Gotta love the "Verdara Green" typo. And Saddle interior,.........me thinks much prettier in its' #217 Sandalwood. |

The cream puff definition includes Formulas with 400 engines? What's next?

That is a really nice car - can't put a price on that kind of originality but I suppose you have to.

I'd love to own that car, but it is priced as if it was a RAIV formula. Excuse me I have to feed my unicorn.

You are right that a Formula is not a lesser car. I was blinded by the original condition of the car. Sorry to have wasted your time and muddied up the thread.
