So half-inch, is it true that music on vinyl sounds "warmer"? It must with all those tubes lit up!

Good choice with the James Gang. That's a great album.

Nice systems & stories of vintage car & home audio, love those big old marantz & other silver face vintage brands.

I have a nice collection of vinyl too, mostly classic or newer rock & roll.. have that same Ted Nugent album and a couple of his others, Stranglehold & Wango Tango live are great songs... its a maserati maserati! You can see a couple Van Halen albums & record players in the pics of my Klipsch speakers.

Good to see so many members are into home & car audio!

"Mind Blowers" 6"x9" from the 70's.
Anyone else remember these, had self contained amps in each speaker.
Had them in my 1964 1/2 Mustang.
Blew lots of minds with them .lol

MIND BLOWERS! * SHADES of the SEVENTIES!*This auction is for a vintage store display with a pair of the famous (in their own time) Mind Blower speakers from Tenna. The display still has the original working Solitron 12 volt power supply. The model number on the speakers is PS-69RD, they are 6x9 60 watt RMS speakers, each has a built in amplifier.

I was a mobil DJ in the 80's as a side gig, don't get me started on equipment.
But I had 2 Audio - Technica direct drive turntables to start with.
Still available today.

I remember the Mind Blower speakers like yesterday.
A lot of guys had them , and they were good bang for the buck.

I never saw the newer coaxial version with nicer grilles or the 5 band equalizer .
Just the single cone jobs with cheapo plastic grilles and the small controller like the store display in the auction.

I would have bought the newer versions with equalizer in a heartbeat if they had been available in my area at the time I was gearing up in my teens.

I had 2 tape decks , 7band equalizer amplifier , and 6 speakers in the Vega.
Stereo was way more powerful than the car.

I do not recall those mind blowers, at all, I mean my mind is blown now just reading about them.

My first memory of aftermarket speakers were the Jensens, coax, then a mini mind blow with the triax.

I don't remember the Mind Blowers but, yeah, the Jensen's with the blue surrounds & 20oz magnets. Hooked to a Craig Power Play.

Lately I've been using my old boombox, the JVC PC-5. It was my first stereo - you could use it as a 40lb. boombox or you could take it apart and set on a shelf as a component system. Neat!

My iPods have died on me so now I'm down to just my Zune HD; 16Gb of my kind of music.

Late 70's I was rocking 45 watt Technics (sp) receiver, sansui Sr 535 direct drive turntable, Advent II speakers. Several times me and a buddy would skip school and ride my Yamaha 125 45 miles to Gainesville, fl and hit all the stereo shops in town. Back then, in a college town, there were many shops to check out. Fun times.

Yes; the vinyl sound warmer through tubes and transistors. Cassettes preserve the warm cinyl sound.

Compared to CD through transistors being the worst. Subtle sounds remain as-mixed with vinyl. CDs bring subtleties up front where they don't belong. Ha, in the garage i have a CD Player into a tube console for some commercial free niose. The records in the garage are my "2nds" and get played thru transistors. Still warm enough.

Office stereo has the right setup: vinyl into tube preamp and tube power, into 15" full range, and a second speaker set of 12".

Pink Floy Dark Side of the moon CD vs Album is a clear example of HiFi vs crass mids and highs with headache in 5-minutes.

Tubes vs transistors: many transistor circuits these days sound just fine. Guitar and bass amps even.

I am amazed how those Pioneer units to still command around 400-500 dollars on Ebay. I found a used one and still sold it for 200 and it was in rough shape.
How much are you selling this one for?

Don't know which one you're asking about. I hadn't thought of selling mine. It was in my car, when I bought it, in 1985. Probably sit on the shelf forever. Like a bunch of other parts. Ha. I'd sell it if someone wanted to use it though. It is a conversation piece! Kinda like my Lightning Rod shifter. I found a picture of a Supertuner like my first one. This one has a chunk out of it and the FF/Rev button missing. Still asking $50! I'm tempted to buy it just to marvel at. LOL

JVC...that was my first and only boombox... I washed dishes all summer to save up for her. Carried it to high school and got into all kinds of trouble blasting DIO lol.

She still powers on but looks like the backlit fancy LCD is toast. I moved the WOODEN speakers to the gazeebo years ago and they still sound great!

Thing was so heavy - I must have been stronger back then...lol

Ah Zune, great device. I had the pre-cursor the Toshiba Gigabeat pocket media center.
