Default 72 455 HO Block on Ebay

Does this thing look fake to anyone. Something seems a miss. Unless the main caps were replaced they don't look correct to me. Seems to be re-stamped.
am I just crazy.

Lot of people do not know what to look for. Never said he was dishonest.
They just think the stuff is legit when they are re-selling it.
I see no broach marks on the front of the block and no Vin stamp.
Just saying very weird.

I will say stamp does appear odd and somewhat different than typically seen...

No doubt about the caps.

Why is it slathered in (the wrong color) engine paint?

Red flag.

Thrust bearing goes where?
Studs?
Bore has been honed at least..
I would insist on a crank bore alignment " Check"
Not an align hone, just check.
Could be it was a SR block " built into " this.
Why mention RA stuff though..

The end caps look original but the 4 bolt caps are absolutely aftermarket. No casting numbers on them and all 3 have the threaded holes for the windage tray.

No SR number, looks like a eun number and a code that does not look correct and no vin number after market caps. What could possible be wrong with $4000?Was the block originally and 4 bolt cap block or just a 2 bolt? The seller is proud with some of his other pontiac parts.More power to him!Tom

I'd say its been decked.
Timing cover gasket ALWAYS leaves a ghost trail.
The restamping is obvious
and the EUN should be about twice that number or higher for a May 72 block.
At least in the upper 05xxxxx range , but its restamped in the 0275xxx range

fail

I have found two original 4-bolt blocks out of T/As with no VIN stamp. One was a 1970 YZ and the other was a 1971 YE. Both came out of original cars and the cast dates on the other parts matched the block. Neither had a SR number.

He just might be selling some questionable JWs as well. Not really questionable they are fabricated, I’m just trying to be nice.

The 70 Blue 4spd TA that PY member in California bought a couple years ago didn't have VIN on the date matching WS engine.
Was the one with molded flares and spoilers and reupholstered in fabric that he recently put on eBay.

Sounds like he is peddling "under the counter replacement parts" now.
He lists his phone number , so who knows , maybe when a buyer calls he tells them the real story and provides disclosure for their own discretion.

2 wheels date 1972 , one 1978 , one n/a , what could be wrong if 2 have slotted cones and 2 do not.
And none are dated 1970

It almost looks like he has a new outlook now.
At those prices , he isn't being indicative of phony parts
Supply and demand is one thing , but copies are generally much less valuable.

what's that smell like

No problem
I momentarily had the same thought by the name until I saw the seller was in Missouri.
Lance is in .... one of those out of the way states , maybe Nebraska .

Default re-stamp?

Was not trying to bash anyone on this. Just my opinion. I have 7 of these HO blocks. And have seen many others over the years. Yes I have one 71 block that does not have a vin stamp. But they all have broach marks on the front of the block. GM used a very large round broach with replaceable teeth. No one uses this type anymore. Leaves a distinct pattern. The number spacing on the sequence stamp is too close. Just telltale signs for me.
