Default 10 year old new oil????

I have acquired a bunch of old never opened oil. Brad Penn, Mobil One and Valvoline high mileage it’s like 52 quarts total. It’s all never opened and was stored in a basement so never froze. It’s all 10-11 years old question is would you use it? I have done a bunch of research just curious what you guys think.

Heck, I’ve been pouring a bottle of GM EOS in at every oil change on my GTO since ‘08. I got those bottles off of a fellow PY member and it looks like they were decades old when I got them.
I wouldn’t hesitate to use your oil, and it’s probably got those high levels of zinc our cams like anyway.

Research says, that the additive package definitely goes bad after a number of years sitting. The oil is still fine as far as a lubricating agent, but the additive package does not do what it was designed to initially.

I thought when I ordered five gallons of oil in the container, I think it expired after 5 years. I would do so more research if you are putting it in your car.

So.me of my cars are still running the same oil that when I bought em ten years ago . They run real fine... I only change oil when its pitch black, except for my diesels when fresh oil gets pitch black after a 10 minutes run.

I .probably the worst example for preventive maintenance , if it aint broken dont fix it lol

Enjoy your vintage oil

Dinosaurs all died 65 million years ago. Ten years on processed oil doesn't seem that much by comparison.

As long as the containers are air tight, it should be fine. I'd get a white, clean, container and pour some into it. Oil will trap moisture, at the bottom, over time. Make sure there isn't any sludge in the bottoms.

Yep. I would absolutely use it. I don't care what the internet says. And I did. I got about a dozen cases of about 8 year old proline from a closed down pep boys in the old style packaging/labeling.. Its all gone except for some 10w-30.

The life span of motor non synthetic oils at stated degrees Fahrenheit.

Note the substantial loss in life from 230 degree to 290 degrees , just a 60 degree change.

I opened a case of valvoline racing oil i had had for a few years and there was a little "sludge" in each quart kind of like cream separating from milk. I decided not to use it .

Well everything I found from BP and Valvoline said 3-5 years at most less if it’s conventional motor oil. Needless to say I was bummed to find this out 27qts. Mobil 1, 27qts of BP and 9qts of Valvoline high milage.

Forgot that 3-5 years was in climate controlled area in sealed packaging off the concrete. Yes it said all that.

As Lake Speed said, the antifoaming agents are the first things to go away, and agitating the oil to see how long the oil stays aerated tells if the antifoaming is still working. He demonstrates how to test your old oil to see if it traps air bubbles, or collapses them, it's a fairly straightforward way to test old oils.

If you don't mind having aerated oil in your engine, by all means, use old oil in your multi thousand-dollar investment..........

This thread made me remember that one dude who used to hang around my shop for years.

He drove various types of vehicles and he treated em all the same way. Which way?

Well , his dad and then himself were absolutely confident that oil changes were a scam from the oil industry ( to a certain level its right but also very much debatable).

So his father ( all of his life ) and our " friend" never changed oil in any of their cars ever. They changed the oil filter once a year and topped the oil level when ever it was low.

At my shop we surely considered those guys quite excentric, but have to admit that their freakin cars kept running fine and didnt consume more oil than any other similar engine.

He drove moslty GM fullsize cars, some 90s jap stuff and his last one was a 1981 Dodge D150 full size pickup, with a 318 that he inherited from his dad.

He sold the truck a decade later still running fine with about 250k miles and never got a full oil change . Just filters

I guess he was a true free spirit !

That is if you believe oil actually came from dead animals. The average depth of a modern oil well is a mile deep. Dinosaurs a mile deep ? Fossils are found on the surface.
Oil is the 2nd most available liquid on earth besides water.
Some oil company executives are finally admitting the earth just makes it.
Some old wells are filling up again.
IMO its a ruse by oil companies to make us think crude oil is so rare, its not. Since there are no Dinosaurs running around that stuff must be about to run out ?
Just the US alone consumes 19 million barrels of oil everyday. From dead animals that turn into dirt ?

This oil, if it looks good, run it.
