Default Fan Shroud, 64 A-body, Metal or Plastic?

Is the OEM fan shroud for the 64 A-body metal or plastic? I thought they were metal, however, the repops are plastic and supposedly like the originals.

I had one that was steel. I think some were a fiberglass type material though.

I'm assuming they originals were plastic like the '66. To my understanding, the fiberglass units were aftermarket reproductions that were being sold before manufacturers started reproducing them in plastic.

Factory air conditioned cars had a stamped sheet metal shroud for the 17-1/2” tall heavy duty radiator and 19” fan. I have 2 of those shrouds, one being original to my ‘64 Le Mans convertible with factory air conditioning.

I’m not exactly sure about the fan shroud that may have been used for the standard 15-1/2” radiator which I’m assuming would mainly have been used for field installed air conditioning. Those are reproduced in fiberglass but I’m assuming the original ones were molded plastic.

Note that the one pictured below has been modified to accept a ‘66-‘67 radiator with the drivers side upper inlet.

The 65 fiberglass fan shroud 9774621 is a rare bird. I do not remember the 64 having a shroud except for the metal HD one. I believe the plastic ones were repops and the metal ones are the original ones.

I will step back. My MPC shows the 621 used on 64-67 T-8. Metal one, 9775959, used in 64-65.

To your knowledge, does this apply to '64-67, or only '64?

I once bought a 1966 core support from a factory air conditioned car and it had the hard to find plastic fan shroud intact along with all the sheet metal baffles for A/C.

I bought that core support assembly to replace a hacked up standard support on a 1967 GTO I used to own.

I sold all the parts and never ended up putting them on the GTO.

64-3Deuces , which type radiator support do you have ?
Is it an extroverted channel with the radiator mounted on top - or an inverted channel like a trough that the radiator sits down into ?
How tall is your radiator ?

They came out with a factory dealer service item for 66-67 Non-AC cars.
It was a molded fibered plastic.
Was not an assembly line part - was a dealer service item (upgrade) for the Non-AC cars
It is reproduced

The 66-67 AC shroud is/was also reproduced.

Like Bart mentioned , verify your radiator outlet locations will jive with whatever the shroud is designed for.

I've only seen original steel ones, and have two on my cars, and a spare one. (often confused with the 63-4 metal shroud) Dennis Kirban's reproduction fan shrouds were fiberglass. Nice on the outside, unfinished on the inside. Ames reproduction of this piece is abs plastic. If I saw the fiberglass original that Bill Ryder mentioned, I probably discounted it as reproduction and didn't look any closer.
