72 lemans factory paint....is lacquer?
Does anybody know for sure if Pontiac was using lacquer to paint cars built in 72?
I think I read that somewhere, but was still not positive. Also thought I remembered if you rub some chemical on it it would rub the paint off confirming it is lacquer. Thanks |

If you put lacquer thinner on lacquer the paint will come off. If you leave it on a while gasoline will soften it also.

Our '76 Buick A-body still had lacquer. Built in Fremont.

Lacquer
Lacquer was used all the way to 1987 or 88 on most GM cars. Some got enamel and the first BCCC paints. Early 90's is when most cars were painted BCCC.
You should be ok if your car is original paint.
