That's always been said about 1st Gen Birds and Camaros , an 001 at each plant.
An odd thing is I can't recall ever hearing of an 001 GTO Believe a few have surfaced in the teens and twenties. |

Isn't the Humbler GTO from the 1970 SB Commercial, a 000001 Body? That's the only I believe I've ever heard of.

69 Firebird convertible 5 speed green bean at $50K reserve not met in Pennsylvania. I love the dog dish caps and the look of the car. Really nice build and so retro unique.

Its supposed to be a 4 Invoice car - but no one has ever posted any of the Invoices. Don't recall any saying it was 00001 before , but anything is possible as far as I know ( aka nothing ) |

They displayed the 4 invoices at the 2021 MCACN with the car. I just happened to find at these a couple days ago looking for something else...good timing!

Thanks for going to the effort to post those Dennis.
Can't make out hardly anything on them at all , but it doesn't appear to be 00001 , maybe 00023 Can't even make out anything about the controlled exhaust option |

BVZ, hopefully these are a little more legible. Looks like 00028, no VOE listed, but Red Line G70's are. I don't see the Formula steering wheel either, but Custom Sport is. It looks like options were added to upgrade the car for the commercial.

VOE was removed from the car before they could sell it to the public, so not reflected on the PHS's. There is evidence that the VOE pull cable and bracket were there as can be seen by the surface rust in the bolt holes.

Super Cool !
Thanks for sharing those. Might start a thread in the 70-72 section for it. The latest dated invoice to Engineering - im guessing - was actually probably a make-up for what should have been its actual Invoice #1 , that maybe slipped through the cracks initially. Unless there is more to the story , and more uncovered invoices. Wild Also "guessing" the VOE may not have had a sales code in the early stages. |

Super Bowl was played Jan 11, 1970
No telling when the Humbler commercial was actually shot - prior to that. But supposedly it wasn't until after the commercial actually aired on TV that the crap hit the fan. This is complex |

That's right...this car was used in the GTO brochure that was printed in 9-69, and is shown on many of the pages. It doesn't talk about the VOE, but there is a picture of both pull knobs (pg. 10). It has the 14x7 Rally II's and hood pins (but not on the restored car...or in the commercial???). There were probably several hoods on that preproduction GTO, with and without hood pins.

An 05C body - would have been a Pilot Car in terms - but definitely via Engineering.
So I can sort of make some sense of the later invoice being generated for one that slipped through the cracks . perhaps Don't think we have all the pieces necessarily Might not ever Will save most of my other thoughts for a new thread this evening or tomorrow. Kinda Wild |

Its highly possible he or someone did.
Mike made a brief announcement about the car when it was rediscovered and that it had 4 invoices. He was going to share those with us later on here - but it never materialized. I know who owns the car now. But know very little about it other than urban legends. |

That's definitely not the car lol
Someone must just be borrowing the phrase. |

However ,
It does appear to be a legit 611 VOE car - even on the partial Buildsheet = 611 AND it is / was a WT 4spd. Urban legend is it was only on YS Auto cars So this is Interesting ! Also a small thing worth noting this car was built 12B (before SuperBowl) but sold Way After the SuperBowl in July 70. I almost don't even know how to approach doing the new thread. Might get too juicy Last edited by Baron Von Zeppelin; 03-14-2024 at 05:17 PM. |
