Dug out the 74 T/A today
My son and I decided to get the 74 455 T/A running. It's been sitting for about eight years since it was last cranked. I took the plugs out and squirted in a little Marvel Mystery Oil, then let it sit. I didn't think it would be stuck, but it doesn't hurt to be safe. I disconnected the HEI wire and spun the engine over for about 10 seconds several times before firing.
It fired immediately, took a couple of times to get gas to the carb. Now to clean it up. |

More pictures.
The hood is sitting high because the battery we used to start it came out of my 2500 Suburban. I have the battery sitting on a couple of wood blocks stacked in the battery tray. |

After the wash. This car was used as a daily driver/backup driver for about 15 years.

Red 455 automatic with deluxe red interior. It was a late production car and has factory HEI. The red door panels and rear panels have disentigrated. Will likely go back as black at some point.

Wow, what size exhaust is on that things Mike 3"? Car looks overall pretty dry with that green grass background ;( We are in line for 6-10" in 48 hours thus liking that green grass. So is that the boys new ride?

It was originally intended for my oldest son. He had a rather heavy foot, and got a few tickets. The brakes started getting soft due to air in the line, so I took it off-road. I ended up giving him money towards the down payment of the house instead of the car.
My youngest son (now 26) wants it, he will most likely end up getting it. Believe it or not, the car still had the original exhaust on it up until a few thousand miles before I took it off the road. I parted out another car that had a fairly new exhaust on it, so switched the new exhaust over to the 74 TA. It has a behind the rear axle Flowmaster muffler with large pipe (maybe 3"). I don't like the exhaust tips, but if I put it back on the road I'll do something with the tips. The original motor is out of the car and stored away. It ate a camshaft in the early 2000s. I had a fresh 455 short block with .040" forged pistons I put in it. I think I used 4X heads off a 74 T/A 400 to boost the compression a little, and it has a Wolverine Blue Racer cam in it. I don't remember if I used the one that is close to 455HO or Ram III specs, but with more lift. It is a torque monster. My wife didn't like driving it, the cam was a little lopey and the lightest tap of the gas would make the tires chirp. I still run into people who tell me about the burnouts my son used to do in it.
