Negative Battery Cable Routing
Does anyone have pictures of how the negative cable was or is supposed to be routed? I have the assembly manual, but either the battery cables that are reproduced are too short or the routing shown in the assembly manual is incorrect. It shows routing up onto the fender, but there is no way the cable will reach, it would be about 6"-8" too short. You can see in the pictures if I run the cable high like it looks like the manual shows it is short and if I route it so it fits it is down close to the washer bottle.
Thanks, Karl

How long is your cable?
The terminal should be down or a little bit down and to the fender. (yours looks like it is pointing up?) It also routes through a plastic loop on the fender which should let it have some more room.

John,
It appears to be about 24" from center of battery terminal to end of lug. I do have it pointed to the fender like the manual shows. Maybe the angle of the camera and the fact I have a tender hooked up to it and it is blocking the battery end of the cable. The only plastic loop on the fender, has the wiring harness, washer fluid hose and I think the evap hose. Thanks, Karl

The Parts catalog showed the cable as being 25" long.
With Ric's pics, the negative may not have been in a plastic loop. (don't have my 73 TA anymore)

My Pontiac Parts dept replacement is 29.5" circa 1977. That said; They liked to homoglate replacement parts to fit as many models as possible.

The only other possibility is if there was originally a clip mounted to the rear-most washer bottle mounting screw (missing on mine), that may work with a proper length cable. The '72 PDM shows such a clip, #9782572. |
