Spark plug gap recommendation
I am building my stroker engine for my GTO. I am using ‘77 6X-4 heads. I am using a MSD rtr distributor with a blaster 2 coil. The compression ratio will be in the 9.3:1 area. I have a set of AC Delco R45TSX spark plugs that I’ll be using. With the above information, what should the plug gap be set to? This will be street driven.

.035"-.040" would be my choice. YMMV.

Welcome back!
The TSX plug is a .060 gap plug. Some are ok with wider gaps, but am not. It puts more resistance in the ignition setup. AC plugs have not been getting favorable reviews for a while... NGK seems to be the primo plug for any applications... I’d use a NGK equivalent to the AC R44T or R43T. These gap at .030. Many here prefer the extended tip plugs, R44TS or R43TS, the also gap at .030. I’m guessing, by now, you got ALL the flooring in he house done?

The X series plugs are made for running a .060” gap and I would not run those, you want the plain TS suffix plugs, then gap them at .045”.

Thanks, man! Good to be back! I can’t believe I’m actually moving forward with this! This was today’s progress. The valley pan, valve covers, carb and intake are just sitting in place for mock up purposes. Not only is the flooring done, but I also built a 31 x 16 deck! Sheesh! Engine paint job looks very nice.
I make that cast iron AC bracket satin Black. The aluminum bracket i spray clear ( or machinery gray) to prevent corrosion. |

Mike, the X plugs are for HEI applications. The 45 plug is Way too hot for running Any alcohol in the fuel. Highly recommend a #43 for summer only use. If you can't find a plug you like in the old school nomenclature, try looking them up with a "M" in front of the number. Example is "MR43TS" these are the marine version of same plug, will work fine. Will we get to hear it run on V8 radio ?
You can run a Delco 170 t stat as well. |

.045" with a .5 Ohm coil and .035" with a 1.7-2.0 Ohm coil w/1.3 Ohm resistor lead.

A little known fact, if you listen to the very end of the show, there's a start up and mild rev of an engine. That's my GTO before the build. After I'm back on the road, I plan to update that sound with the new engine sound. Thanks for listening! Edit: I found the R43TS's at my local O'Reilly Auto Parts. Picking them up tonight. Thanks again!

Get that sunny beach back on the road, for another burnout!
Not today, we’re getting way too much of your winter weather, here in Oklahoma, and it’s supposed to get worse in the coming week!
