I picked up a 1972 Nova 8.5 rear end housing today and was wondering if it would work on my 1974 Firebrid ?

-Overall width will be 1" narrower than a 2nd Gen rear. 54.5" inside of backing plate to inside of backing plate.
-Perches are for mono leaf application & are indeed at a different inclination & in different spot than those on 2nd Gen housings. -Have 3 such mono leaf 8.5 X housings in my housing racks & have built multiple dozen off that particular housing. If you were planning on building up an 8.5 to go into a 1st Gen F-body or a '68-72 Nova, setup for the strip with mono leaf rear springs, it's an easy start.

It'll directly bolt into a 1st gen, but not a 2nd

Rear housing.
I have a rear end out of my 74 Firebird if you need one. I'm down here in the Fargo North Dakota area.

That shouldnt be hard to move to someone with a first gen. And the 2nd gen rear ends are easier to find anyway.

I can't cross the border with Covid I'll be looking at a 1981 F body diff this week.
Funny that Nova rear end is stamped on the housing " JA G127 2 so built in early May 72 and the code on the Nova site doesn't show till 1973. It's like my HM Rally II wheels built in May 73 for my 1974 Firebird. |
