68-70 ORIGINAL RADIATOR HOSES
Does anyone have any original pictures of 68 to 70 radiator hoses? Looking at the reproductions they seem to not be correct. Pacecarjeff.com sells hoses that have the yellow ink stamped, but not the correct part numbers for 68's. The other reproductions with the white ink silkscreen look nothing like the known originals I have. They all sell 9796090 NH for the upper, and 9790277 NL for the lower.
Here is the data I have come up with from photos and original build sheets. I have a lot of 68 GTO build sheets and they all list codes NH for the upper and NL for the lower I have a couple of 69 GTO build sheets and they list code ND for the upper and NL for the lower And one 70 build sheet with NR for the upper and NL for the lower. The only consistency is NL for the lowers, but all 3 years have a different upper code. Here are photos of original hoses I have, or have taken pictures of.......... The first one is my 68 lower with part number 9790276 NL in the center of the hose with a separate arrow and the word RADIATOR near the radiator end. The second is my 68 upper with 9790275 NH with the word RADIATOR right above the part number at the radiator end. The third and fourth is Scott Allens 68 Ram Air I with the 9790275 NH in the center by the alternator and an arrow and the word RADIATOR at the radiator end. The fifth is a 68 survivor that was in Hot Rod Magazine. It has the 9790275 NH by the alternator and a separate arrow and RADIATOR by the radiator end. The only difference from the Ram Air I hose is that the numbers are flipped. The Sixth is my brothers original 69 upper hose with 9796090 ND and RADIATOR AU and an arrow by the radiator end. These pictures really don't match up with the reproductions that are currently available (at least for 68) Does anyone have any more pictures of known original 68 to 70 hoses? Scott |

Pacecarjeff.com sells hoses that are more correct than the ones available from the restoration companies. I'm not convinced his hoses are 100% correct for 68's. Nobody has anymore photos of original hoses?????

I have several 69 buildsheets, all show ND and NL (for both full size and A bodies).

So is the Restoration Guide incorrect?
on page 358, 1968-70... "Radiator hoses were molded, and all had a 1-1/2 inch inside diameter. The lower hose was the same for all three years (part number 9790277). The letters NL were stamped on the hose. The upper hose was the same for 1968 and 1969 (part number 9796090), and was stamped NH." |

Yes, the restoration is incorrect. There are many inaccuracies in that book. Still a good book, just verify the information.

I see that PacecarJeff will do special request hoses. Could have him stamp with the "correct numbers".

I have made those hoses with both application codes - - Not sure which is correct, but if you request a specific application code. You can have it your way..... lol

Jeff, I have ordered things from you in the past and they all have been great.
Once I confirm the upper/lower numbers I need, I will get a set. dk |

Fast forward a few months; After reading this post I called Jeff up and explained what I wanted for my 68. He made a new part number stamp for my radiator hoses per the numbers listed above. I received them today and they are exactly what I requested. Thanks Jeff and thanks to Scott for the correct numbers.

Ed, Thanks so much for the kind words.
I make each hose one at a time by hand. Try my best to make them as authentic as possible. There were so many different versions of each hose as GM used multiple Vendors for these type items.. Seems Pontiac was the most difficult in terms of variations on the same part number. But always willing to give it a shot.
