Default Oil Dipstick Tube Question

Not Installing windage tray. Number 3 main cap does not have boss or 5/16 holes for lower dip stick tube bracket. Any ideas on how to mount lower dip stick tube?

Drill and tap the two holes on the #3 main cap. No big deal to do so. Or, you could go with a Canton pan that has a dip stick provision built on it.

The Canton takes its own dip stick, adds $100 to it,also a oil pump pickup which adds more. You can drill the inside of the Canton to use a factory dip stick.Tom

Be sure if you do drill & tap that you either use a bottom tap after the normal taper tap, or you confirm that the hold down bolts you use do not bottom out in the new main cap holes , as if they do you chance cracking the stock regular gray iron caps!

Not a fan of drilling the main cap as it is curved and not a lot of metal to work with. Any way you could silicone the lower tube into the one pressed into the block or pin it somehow.

I don't have the lower tube in mine. The tube broke off from the mounting bracket and I found it laying in the bottom of the pan the last time I had it off. I left it out when I put it back together and I can still check the oil just fine. You might have to re-mark the dipstick though. DO NOT run the engine with the dipstick in the tube if you leave the lower tube out.

The Canton pans are nice with the dipstick provision.20 bucks for a nice dipstick is a deal.

Which oil pan? I have the kick out pan and used the top plug on the pan for a dipstick. Made it from braided line and 8 am fittings

Gee! How does the factory drill the main caps if there curved without a lot of meat there?

The factory caps that are drilled are higher and have bosses for them. My number 3 cap is not nearly as thick above the crank as number 2 and 4 are.

Are you using main studs?
Just a thought, a stud similar to what is used in a Milodon wind age tray install would give you a point to attach the lower tube extension.
