A year ago I got a guided tour that was spectacular! This year I got another one that was equally interesting, but we went places we weren't supposed to go.

I wonder if Natalia made it to the prom?

The quickest way to Niagara Falls is through Canada. If you decide to go that route, mention it to the rental car company. Sometimes they want to know if you plan to take their car out of the USA. Something to do with insurance.

You should try to catch some live music. I'm sure the locals can fill you in.

That "GASM" guy gets around. He's apparently not afraid of heights, either.

A drive around the Packard plant then to Greenfield Village would be an awesome day, both parents worked at Packard from the 40s until they closed we lived on Helen street right up the road, the standard of living in Detroit during the 60s was the highest in the world, it was a great place to grow up.

and some more....intersection of Lynch & Mt. Elliott - thirty years ago you couldn't cross this street from what I understand, now look at it.

Made it down to the train station, that part of town is getting reborn.

too bad you weren't here the weekend before, June 4 and 5

In London Ontario, 1.5 hours from Detroit, in Canada, is the Fleetwood Cruise.

I have never been, but I have heard it is a great time.

Ford Museum and Greenfield Village take about a day each (as someone mentioned). But they are highly worth it.

If you're itching to spend some time driving (1.5 hrs), suggest heading up to Frankenmuth. Very cool place. While there, check out the huge Birch Run outlet center, and bring your appetite for Tony's I75 restaurant. And don't forget to hit Broenners Christmas Wonderland; the largest you'll ever see, and yes it's open all year. For sure getting up early so you can enjoy a full day.

Spending a full day driving to see the Falls is really not using the time wisely. You'll need to figure at least 9 hours straight driving for the round trip (PLUS, depending on the time and day you could easily spend a half hour just trying to get across in either direction. And that's not including if you have to reassemble the interior. Still faster than the US route though). The main highways through Canada are not really exciting. Add in meals, finding parking, etc. you will just be Griswalding it.

I agree. They did a fantastic job of blending the vintage photos with the modern locations.

I've always been particularly intrigued by this one:

The reference to video shoots in this caption reminds me of something:

Recently they filmed a movie on Woodward Avenue (George Clooney, I think) and used the old abandoned city library as a backdrop. I had to fight my way through all the traffic and excitement as I tried to make it home.

As I went by the building itself I noticed they had put plywood up over all of the windows - and - the plywood had graffiti on it: graffiti that they had brought with them.

I was thinking "...what?! Our graffiti isn't good enough?!?"

Visited Detroit in 2004. The Henry Ford was great, as others have mentioned you will need two days...I did.

I headed north and went up the coast along Lake Huron and ended up at Mackinac Island, that was fun to visit, but I had more time than you.

At least do a lap up and down Woodward through Pontiac!
I did Niagara Falls to Boston in a day, filled the day in lol.

"...a burger..."??? I start off with four and usually end up eating six...and if I lived somewhere that didn't have them...I'd most likely eat a dozen...with cheese of course!!! I've also heard nothing but good things about the Ford Museum but haven't made it there myself yet. Enjoy!
