Default 1965 Engine Bay

Mike Noun, Thank You for these early 65 photos!
The more I look at them, the more I see.

They confirm what I always believed.....your pics, plus the ones I have (Tempest, Lemans, GTO) from old articles show the "Early 65's" came with the components I show below.

1) Red Positive Battery Cable
2) Silver Cadmium Heater Hose Bracket
3) Slotted Power Steering Pulley
4) Very Rare....Square Plug In RF Of Intake Manifold

I wonder how many Concours Judges know of these correct OEM items?

THX, Chris.

Chris, you're welcome! I've been asked to add them to the 64-65 Reference sticky. I will add these there, along with some other reference pics.

Just a reminder, these photos are of a 1965 Royal Bobcat car, so I don't know what changes Royal made to this particular tri-power setup that differentiate from stock.

Mike

Water pump pulley appears to be plated not painted. I know that is a subject that comes up quite often.

Plated water pump 2-groove pulley were cars with "power steering" only, like the one in this thread.

"No power steering" cars used a black painted 1-groove pulley.

Also an "Air Condition" car used a smaller black painted 2-groove pulley.

Mike, are you able to do one of your CSI on the "Data Plate"?

Also what was the date of this test on the 65 Bobcat?

THX, Chris.

Chris, the test was in the March 1965 issue of Car And Driver. It was the test between the Pontiac 2+2 and Ferrari 2+2. They were supposed to also run a 1965 GTO as a comparison against the other two cars, but the GTO was having some engine problems due to some "over enthusiastic driving" before it arrived.

I can't make out much on the data plate, but here it is. I also did a reverse negative of it. Between the two, you guys may be able to make something out of it.

Thumbs up Cool

Mike, Thank You Very Much!

My guess is....

Plant - PON
Build - 10A = first week of Oct. 1964
Exterior Color C C = Cameo Ivory
Interior Color 216 = Red

If it is a 10A that puts it in the month of the strike (Sept. 25 thru Oct. 25)??

I can see why!

Blowing oil and throwing belts.

Probably wound up with a SR block after that day.

This car might be a PY member???

60sstuff, When you early 65 build have these components, do you mean up to Dec. 4th week?

My 65 (11A) has the 4 components listed in post #21.

The 65 in this Mike Noun thread also has the same 4 factory parts (early test car).

The Red positive battery cable goes to a (12E), 5th week of Dec. 64

The intake plug, silver cad. hose bracket and slotted PS pulley ended earlier - Oct./Nov.

So all these parts were being fazed out very early in the 65 production.

If you think about the 64 GTO's, they used a cadmium plated heater hose bracket, a slotted PS pulley, a Red positive battery cable and an intake with a drilled and tapped hole at the RF location.
Just seems to be left overs from the previous 64 methods.
