Shock Selection
Hello been a while since I posted, I have a 71 400 4 speed car that I have had for 20 years, she is a numbers matching car and a survivor as she has never had a frame off just been taken care of. The shocks on the car have been on it prob about 30 years and are auto parts store specials. Needless to say they need to be replaced. I dont know what shock I should put on it. Do I go with reproduction spiral shocks to look correct? How do these ride, I am thinking Bilstein shocks for the quality and ride comfort, I know I could paint them the correct color gray to look OE. Is this worth all the trouble?? Please chime in as your opinion matters

I've had KYB's and currently Bilsteins on my 70. I switched wheels and tires at the same time I did the shock change so its not exactly an equal comparison but I like the Bilsteins better.

If the car looks like it is in great condition on the underside and you are taking it to shows to get judged, then buy the sprial shocks.

Last summer I replaced all 4 with Bilsteins from Race Car Dynamics (bought through P-S-T). It made a dramatic improvement in the car's ride, and they're not "School Bus Yellow". Of course, they will result in points off if you're at that level of points judging. Here's a link to the site:
