torque converter swapping
Ok, i've read that you can put a chevy TH350/400 converter in a pontiac TH350/400, but can you put a pontiac converter in a chevy?

Either or both...IF (big IF) the fastener stand on the converter doesn't interfere with the flexplate, AND the bolt holes line up between converter and flexplate.
The big difference I see in converters is that some (Chevy) use formed-steel brackets welded to the converter, that have a bolt hole. A bolt and nut secure the converter to the flexplate. Others use bigass threaded lugs welded to the converter, no nut on the bolt. The bigass lugs seem to clear welded-on counterweights attached to the flexplate which the Chevy-style brackets don't. Of course, the switch-pitch 400 converters won't fit any 350s or non-switch-pitch 400s; and 350C torque converters won't fit a non-torque-converter-clutch 350 or any 400s. |
