I went scrounging around the junkyard and came up with a pair of air cleaners off of some early 90's Chevy trucks to make a custom dual snorkel air cleaner.
I removed the heat riser pipe/flapper door and started the patch work on the hole on the extra snorkel, I plan on removing the other one also as I wont be using a heat riser and it will look cleaner with it gone. I'm waiting to attach the other snorkel until it is in the car so I can get the angles just right so as to not interfere with anything and look the best. I also grabbed a bunch of different kinds of air ducting with the correct end to snap onto these snorkels to run somewhere for a cold air intake I like the smaller diameter and think it looks much more at home on top of my engine. I think it will look nice!

I got around to making my dual snorkel air cleaner and painting it. I may still tinker with it a bit but I would say its 90% finished.
Still need to fab some kind of piping into the front of the fender well areas on each side for the cold air intake, for which I will be able to use 3" turbo piping. I also painted a Pontiac metallic blue ring on top of the chrome lid to give it a kind of personal touch. I'm probably going to add something to the tops of the snorkels to dress it up a bit more and to cover my poor welding job on the top of the passenger side snorkel. Perhaps cut out some metal plates in the shape of the tops and also paint them Pontiac blue and rivet them on. What do you guys think? I like it better than the factory dual snorkel because it still lets me see my engine underneath without covering it all up.

Is your OF on the 112 or 114 LSA due to TBI? Ok, why can't I see pics of your air cleaner set-up??!

Thanks Les! Its still a mess with wires and hoses out of place so it will look better when I get it all buttoned up and finished with the air duct pipes, but I like how its shaping up

Can I ask what paint (brand and color) you used on your valve covers- that really looks sharp. I've got factory style chrome covers, and it's just too much bling for me.
Really like that look of the painted covers.

I was the same way, I like the look of the factory covers but thought chrome would be a bit too much. Plus I was being cheap here is the stuff on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-248.../dp/B003CT4AQ6

Hi: Nice job on fabbing up the air cleaner. Have you dynoed the engine yet? Really interested to see what it makes for HP and Torque.
Thanks Charles

Thanks Charles, Unfortunately no I decided against the dyno before installing it. I really wanted to do it and get that HP and Torque info but the fact that I am running the Holley EFI instead of a carb just made it more complicated to do the dyno not to mention finding the time to actually bring it in somewhere and do it. I am already like a year longer than I wanted to be down on this project and really just wanted to get it going back together. I told myself I would be driving this to this years Car Craft Summer Nationals, FOR SURE this year (told myself that last year too ) I can always do a chassis dyno later even though that may not be as fun or accurate.

Ok, Thanks for the info. I stroked a 400 block with Old-faithful cam,Hydraulic roller lifters, and 290 KRE heads, Torker 2 and a 950 quick fuel. It made 560hp and 580 torque..
I was really curious to see what the RPM intake and TBI combo would do to hp and torque. Charles

"I was really curious to see what the RPM intake and TBI combo would do to hp and torque."
The RPM will not make quite the peak HP of the T-II, and spreads the torque curve out a bit pulling some of it down in the RPM range slightly. The T-II shifts HP a bit higher in the RPM range. The last dyno run we got on the same combo with an RPM and Q-jet (no spacer) was 552hp/604tq.....FWIW.....Cliff

Baby steps closer to fire time.
This past weekend I did the install of the 3" X-Pipe to replace the 2.5" one I cut out last fall. I reused the 2.5" mufflers and tail pipes and used a cone reducer going into the muffler. Don't mind the underfloor, its dirty ugly undercoating and I still need to clean up my welds a bit and paint the pipes but its another thing off the list to drive time
