Question 74 T/A whats the function of this part?

74 T/A driver side inner fender wall mounted ,whats the function of this electrical part? was it hot start button or ? the black rubber knob on top of it is hollow.

Seat belt/starter interlock by-pass relay. Bypasses the interlock system (under the seat trigger) so the starter can work.

That starter interlock relay is there on all 74's & if you remove it without the proper bypass wiring of it your car won't start. I use to own a service station back in the 70's & I can't tell you how many times I was called out to start a 74 & all I had to do was push the button & pow $ 35.00 Please. There is a way to wire it to bypass it but to keep it original it has to be there. It's a 74 item only.

I have used this factory feature as an anti theft feature before on my 1974 Monte Carlo. This was 1974 only.
