1965 Riviera wanted
I've been looking for a decent '65 Riviera for a few years now but I've decided its time to get one. I'm selling off some project cars that I'm not going to get around to doing and I plan on using that $ for a Riv. I don't care about color combo or 401 or 425, I just want a decent fairly solid driver. No show cars but I don't want one that's been sitting in a field for 30 years either. I do have stuff for trade also if someone wants to do that. I'll travel just about anywhere up and down the east coast for the right car. Florida to Maryland and probably as far west as Kentucky. Send me a PM if you have one or know of one. I keep checking CL and Ebay but everyone wants gold prices for mediocre cars.

Joe, those are probably my all time favorite Buicks. My mom had one when I was a kid and it was an incredible car. They are one of the specific models I always have on my radar so if I stumble across any in my area, I'll post them in your thread. Good luck.

I saw them on CL too. Was thinking about throwing my 86 ramcharger at another listed somewhere around here for $5k, can't remember the year though.
Riv restoration is sort of like GP resto...Labor of love and money pit loser investment, HARD TO SELL. That's why they're listed high GET THE BEST YOU CAN AFFORD TO BEGIN WITH!!! Start low and go up. You might be plesantly surprised KV |

There's a pretty nice one for sale on Atlanta craigslist for around $8000, but I can't get the guy to return my phone calls. It seems like they have really jumped up in price in the last few years. I obviously would like to buy one as cheap as possible, but I don't want to go to cheap and buy something I can't get parts for have a hard time fixing. I want something that looks decent and for the most part is a turn key car. Definitely under $10,000 but the closer to $5000 would be better. I don't know what I'm going to be able to find in that range though. There was a pretty good black one for sale in Fort Lauderdale Florida about six years ago for $2500 that I passed on and I kick myself in the butt every day for not buying that car.

I would hold out for a GS. It will be easier to sell down the line should you need to. IMO, the '65 Riviera is the best designed car of the era.

It would be great but I just want a nice '65 driver. I don't plan on selling the car. If I had been smart enough to buy the one in Florida I would still have that car. Hindsight is always 20/20 as they say

Joe, is that the one with the clam shell headlight covers? My neighbor has one that I only saw out of the garage once last year. I could ask him if he has considered selling it.

Reed, that's exactly the look I want down to the astro wheels. Hank, yes 65s have the stacked hidden clamshell headlights. Out of curiosity I'd like to know more info on it.

He pulled it out of a junk yard a few years ago. Shaved the door handles and trunk lock. Air ride installed. Stripped the old paint and painted it Hollywood Gold as he calls the color. Stock 401 in it. Not a perfect car by any means, but it's got a cool look.

Thanks guys, yeah I'm finding this out quickly. I was told about one possibly sitting in a carport in Georgia not to far from here. I'm going to run down there in the morning and check it out. It's probably a wild goose chase but I'd rather know for sure than miss out on a good car. This search has reinforced how much I should have bought that car a few years back.

I'm still looking, I've looked at several over the last few weeks. Even looking at '64s but I'm still craving a '65. If anyone knows of one on the East Coast let me know.

x2..i have a buddy that bought a super nice 64 in the above stated price range..i dont think 5 grand is gonna get you much--tho keep looking for deals..they are out there..but with the advent of the internet, not so much anymore. the 63 to 65 rivi is a very sought after car, especially the GS version. tho any 63 to 65 rivi in nice shape commands some decent $.

The last 4 I looked at were $7000-$12,000. $7k car was in south Miami. Had some minor rust issues, rebuilt 401, car was lowered which I'd leave it that way, carpet was out so the floors looked good. Looked at a pretty decent '64 in Charlotte Sunday. $8500. Had a decent respray, interior was good but not great, 425 car that ran well. I really want a '65. The clamshell headlights are what drew me to them in the first place.
On the subject of '65s, if you are a fan you need to watch this. I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taRFXBYAZso |
