Default Help - 65 Tilt Column Conversion

Why am I having trouble bolting the tilt column to the dash. It seems that the bolt set-up and U bracket is not the same as the standard no-tilt column. There is a small metal tab on the dash bracket that I removed. It still doesn't fit well. Any advice?

I don't see any difference after a quick look at the parts book, other than there is 1 rubber insulator that says its floor shift without tilt

Are you sure the tilt column came out of a American 65 full size Pontiac?

Interesting. Have swapped out straight for tilts in 65s and 66s and haven't seen that problem. Would like to see some pix.

1965 what? Floor shift or column shift? 65-66 Pontiacs are direct interchange. I have had no problem. Well except hooking up the shift indicator on the column shift one time.

You must not have a 65-66 Big Car tilt.

Thanks for all of the input. After looking at all of the evidence, I'm certain what I have is not a 65 column - may not even be a Pontiac. Plan B - another column. I need to get the car on the road!!
