Default Turn signal switch bearing (65)

Has anyone found a bearing that will replace the one in the turn signal switch?

I was wondering if maybe the bearing for the same era C/K trucks or the 'vette might be the right ID/OD. Does a 65 Tempest have the same diameter steering shaft?

I thought I saw a thread where they said GTO bearing was the same, but I do not know. Search may find the part number.

The parts book describes it as follows:
65-66 P/8 exc tilt wheel: Switch Asm, direction signal control-includes brg. 9777251

So the whole thing is an assembly....but.... the switch part and the wiring are the same in a 65 Tempest with console or manual. The aluminum base with the bearing is different mainly do to how the turn signal lever attaches.

So you can buy the Tempest switch from someone like M&H cut the 3 studs that hold the switch on and remove the switch...Do the same thing (but just straighten the studs) on the B body assy pull old switch off. Put the one off of the Tempest switch on the B body brg assy. and new switch electrically. I did this about 6 years ago to make my frankenswitch I had in the GP.

IIRC ( and that is doubtful ) the Tempest switch had a slightly smaller ID...or it might have been larger...or the same...where did I put my keys...I like Pizza. Where was I? This getting old sucks.

What I'm shooting for (from worst to best) is

A)Use the M&H switch + bearing ?? to rebuild the 65-66 B body switch
B)Use the M&H switch and its bearing to rebuild the B body switch
C) if the bearing in the A body is the same OD or larger, try to get M&H to make a small change in the casting and drill and tap provisions for the B body turn signal lever, making a "universal" switch. If the ID is larger on the A body all you would need is a speedy sleeve to make it work. If the ID is smaller I'd need to convince them to make a new part number.

Have you called Gary's Classic Columns yet? They rebuild steering columns and may save you a lot of headaches
