1973 Formula SD GM Export Car
Anyone seen this car or options deleted on a car before? Whats with the gearing?
Cool car but could you even register it without seat belts here in the states? It has lots of issues but interesting non the less. Its going to be at Mecum Auction this coming weekend and the asking price is 97K |

Seems we may have talked of this before?
The export destination required different belts, so they are deleted at factory. (since they aren't needed, going to be replaced) Larry take lost of pics?

Why would one order a Formula and then do everything possible to make it look like a T/A? Lots not right about this car. Needs lots of detail loving!

that car is owned by a collector here in the Dallas area that has sold a number of SD's on eBay. I think he sold 2 red '73's and a red '74 in 2011 and he is either an owner of a Jeep dealership or has something to do with it. I called him about a '70 T/A he was selling last year and he told me he had this car in storage and sent me some pics of it. At the time he was thinking of selling it but wanted $90's for it. The last attachment shows the PHS below the repro. window sticker. From the prices on the PHS it looks like a military discount purchase to me.

I've got a couple questions. I'm replacing my shocks and struts, I started this past weekend with the rears. They took 10 minutes each, it was very easy. Then onto the front tires, the struts arent original but look very old. I cannot get the nut on the topside off. It spins the internal piston, never allowing the nut to break loose. I cannot get to a good place to stop this from happening. Any ideas before I need take it to the shop?

The top of the cylinders rod should be milled so you can get a open end wrench on it and another wrench on the nut.

Thanks Brewster! I did that; however with the small tough angles and improper tools; that part has been rounded a bit. I obviously need to get new tools, but I might just let the pros handle this one. I need my new exhaust part together as well, so I may as well let them do this too. Thanks for the info!

Struts? I imagine you mean shocks. :-)
They make a double socket contraption just for this situation. It is a smaller deep socket with the oval indent to fit the tip of the shock, and then an outer sleeved socket that fits the actual retaining nut. If you were closer, I'd let you borrow mine.
