Default spoilers

I heard there is a difference between spoiler ends from the early and later cars. Are these the short early style? What are they worth if they are?

As long as they're not RUSTY the should be worth about the same as the later ones.

I's pretty easy to turn a later one into an early one with a hacksaw.

Speaking of which how much do you take off the end to make it into the early style?

That would have to be difficult to measure, at best. One option would be to copy originals . . .

It is hard to tell if they are the shorties in that picture. It is easy to tell from the backside if you can add a picture of that.

Looking at the end cap close up picture you posted, they look like they are the later style "long tail" versions that someone has already tried to chop off... but not quite enough has been chopped off. That's a bit hard to say without seeing them fit to a car or sitting them side by side with a correct early set.

What are they worth? To a proper '70 Formula owner................ nothing

Exactly why I want to get rid of them. I just found a pic I had of the rear end when they were on the car and it looks like they only came down to the bottom of the tail lights so maybe they are the short ones, unless they've been cut. I'll have to inspect them a little closer to see if there are any saw marks.

I layed a piece of string on my early ones across the back top edge and came up with 16 inches if this helps. Chad

On the inside of the end caps do you see one or two part numbers? Some of the "early later style", if that makes sense, had both part numbers. Ideally you'd only see 480159 and 480160 on each and not a 493687 and 493688 also.

Thanks, they have 480159 and 480160 only on them. I did notice though that it looks like someone cut about 1/4 inch off of one of them so they aren't exactly symmetrical. I was going to put them on craigslist. What should I ask for the whole set?

May I suggest that you post them in the for sale section here first?

I would but didn't really want to hassle with finding boxes and shipping. I probably will offer a bunch of decent interior pieces too that I dont want to hassle with shipping either if craiglist doesn't work out.
