Default New best ET

This weekend I had the opportunity to participate in the last Arm Drop Live even hosted by the Pinks crew and Houston Motorsports Park's 1/8th mile track. Though I was among the slowest times in my bracket I ran a new best in the 69 and had a GREAT time.

Test and tune Friday night yielded 8.02 and 8.03 passes at ~84 mph with my old out of the box 850 DP. I decided to swap on a buddy's old HP 950 set up for his 540. Idle was better than its ever been and throttle response was insanely crisp and clean.

First qualifying pass I ran a 7.63 at 91 mph. Backed up with a 7.64. Saturday morning ran one pass during test and tune and 3 more passes during qualifying. First pass was 7.57 at 92 mph! All 3 qualifying passes after it warmed up were 7.63,7.62,and 7.64. I made it in as an alternate. My group was from 7.09 - 7.69. First round I was staged with my rear wheels on the beams against a car that was running 7.10's all day, so I went out in the first round.

Depending on conversion calculator used the 7.57 1/8th mile equates to a 11.75-11.85 sec 1/4!!! Previous best was 12.27. Heading to HRP Friday night to see the true 1/4 mile results. Nonetheless, .5 sec and 8 mph improvement in the 1/8th is huge! Can't imagine what it would run if I didn't have bad rings.... The new 496 will be done soon enough.

In addition, mine was the only true STREET car there and it was the ONLY Pontiac motor in the event!

Nice runs in the 1/8th. Post 1/4 mile times. It might be time to switch to a 950 carb.

Sweet, it goes to validate the importance for a good fuel system. I just had very similar results after fuel system upgrade, including new carb! Congratulations!!! JD

7.50 @ 93 is about 11.70's @ 117-118. Nice job picking up 1/2 sec! Now you need a carb, huh? I like your combo, similar to mine....

Fortunately, I had already bought the 950 before I put it on. When I told him what the car ran he said, "You owe me $500 more than what you paid!!" LOL
