Default Barn Find "Macho" Trans Am ?

Guy's I have a friend that has asked me about a "Macho" Trans Am that is sitting and has been for several years, it is a 1978 I belive. Has anybody ever heard of this "Macho" T.A. before. Was this a dealer package, never heard of it before. I am into GTO's but admire the Trans Am's terrific styling. I have several photos to share if someone could do that for me, please chime in and I will send them to you and perhaps you can post them for all to see and offer opinions, advice and value. Is it worth pursuing (to purchase). Thank You.

I was never a huge fan of the paint jobs but on the other hand, I'd like to have one simply because of the rarity.

OOOOOF, I totally eat my words. That is a pretty badass car. I dunno, there is something about black and gold in any layout on one of those cars.

Joe, I have to agree. Of course, I think that for a lot of us, we can thank the movie S&tB for instilling in the love for TAs and the Black and Gold color scheme at such an early age.

Machos? I would LOVE to have one eventually. To me, they are VERY cool cars.

I just got my new issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines mag and they did an article on the Macho cars. Very informative. I don't know if you can get that one on the mag rack anywhere but there is a picture of a new Challenger and about 5 old ones on the cover. Anyone wanting info on the cars should check it out.

IMHO the Macho TAs were very cool...neat cars that are sure to go up in value. I was told Mecham has all the doumentation so verification should be easy enough.

There is a silver 78 local here and it is always neat to see it...I believe the console tag was number 147. Tried to buy it in 1993. At that time it had 17K miles with original tires.

Good luck with the purchase. Buy it if you can or post contact info on here and someone will pick it up.

Yep, Bonneville Joe is right, it's the October issue of Hemming's Muscle Machines. The cover is dominated by Challengers but there's a small pic of the Macho down in the corner. The article breaks down the mods that were done to the car to make it different than a stock T/A. I think they also said that DKM would paint them just about any color combo the buyer wanted, I think that's why some of them look a little "disco era" to quote the article.
