Default Volt Reg replacement

I have two ECHLIN (NAPA) volt reg's but what one works best for my 66 Bonny with the 389? I have a VR 138 and a VR 142. ANyone know which one would work best? From outward looks, they are dead ringers for my orig one still on the car.

Tim - I looked over on the NAPA on-line store and they list a VR140, which I believe I have used on a 66 Bonneville.

if they are the non solid state ones, take off covers, full size coils differ from others. Open up the original style reg and see if it has one relay-looking thing or two. A full size B body needs the single unit (the voltage regulating coil) and the A body gets the other (volt reg. coil and indicator lite relay) How many wires on the 4 prong connector?

Your regulator should only have 3 prongs. If it has 4, it will not work.
