The only things left chrome were the raised part of the surround and the outline of the GTO emblem. Somewhat clear pictures can be seen here http://216.178.81.108/forums/showthread.php?t=470880

This isn't that difficult to find- just look for ANY picture of a 1970 Judge. The Judge grilles were left as-molded black plastic (not "blacked out" as such, but looks exactly the same).
Otherwise, the chromed potmetal bezels and nameplate were left as they appeared on any other GTO.

Except- the gloss level of ALL of the paint- even that sprayed on the edges of the chromed potmetal bezel, is WAY too high...
Refinished? Yes. Properly restored? Not by a long shot.

Does anyone have pictures on the car? I've often thought of doing this.

I blacked out the grills in my LeMans. I might give you an idea what it will look like.

I just did this set last night, I know the gloss is probably too high(semi-gloss) but I like the way it looks. I think it looks much better than what it looked like before(above pair for reference). I got both of these pairs off ebay for like 80 bucks total(with shipping), The top pair had the chrome surrounds on them but there are holes in the grill bottoms so they are pretty much scrap unless I try to fill them with resin or something, and the bottom pair came with the emblem and no surrounds. I steel wooled the surrounds and repainted the black trim, then I stripped the emblem and repainted the white and that turned out excellent also. I left the emblem bottom bar chrome instead of repainting it black because it reflects the inner grille and looks black anyways. I need to epoxy some mounting tabs onto the top of the passenger side grille but I dont think that will be too big of a deal.
