Default GP rearend upgrade

Hello all,
Can the stock 2.41 single track rearend in my 76 GP be upgraded to a posi with a lower gear ratio? I would like to go to 3.23 gars, and I was wondering if Eaton, Auburn, or anyone else, made a carrier that would install in my existing housing. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks, Daver

Default Housing...

is not a concern. Get the correct carrier for the gears....you'll be fine. Auburn, Eaton have carriers, Richmond has the gears. Be sure to find someone to set it up correctly, or it's all for naught. Good luck. Ron

Thanks Ron, I have been trying to find a factory unit with no luck. Well, I found one but I don't really want to buy the whole car to get it. Any opinion on Eaton vs Auburn? Daver

You can get a posi unit from many full size GM wagons from 80-87. If you want gears, you can get them from wagons, 3.08-3.23. For higher ratios, 3.42-3.73, most full size Suburbans and Blazers with 10 bolt rears have them.
I would not use Richmond....poor quality. Buy US Gear or get a used set.
