Hello. I just dug this old distributor out of my dad's garage. I can't ID the #s in my DELCO books, but I was told it's for a 56 or 57 Pontiac 317 CID. Here are the #s 1110862. I've never heard of a 317. What is it? Will this dist. fit other V8s of this era[guessing a 317 is a V8]? Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Karl.

That number is indeed for a 1956. If it has a cap, you should see that it does not have the little window in the side or the points with the allen screw, a style used only in 1955 and 1956. It probably could be used in any model, but would only look right on a 1955 or 56. Todd C

PS-the 317 (or 316) is the Pontiac V8 used in 1956, it had been 287 in 1955 and was 347 in 1957.

Thanks for the help Todd. I've heard of the 347, but the 317 is totally new to me. I have never owned a Pontiac until I started getting into my 67 GTOs, so this is way before my knowledge. Thanks again, Karl.
