longer than a solid flat? my solid cam has wiped a lobe after about 4500 miles.a race friend told me the other day a solid wont last long on the street and i thought yea right,well a lobe is gone.ive been wanting to go to a roller.does anyone have a roller with street miles and no problems or should i go back to a hyd.

I've got 3 years on my roller and no problems yet at 631 lift. I did send the lifters in to be check though and no problems found.

Not sure why a solid wouldnt last.......a lot of cars used to come with solid cams.

Might want to check geometry along with open and closed spring pressure on that lobe. Coil bind, retainer clearance, incorrect lash can wipe out a solid cam too,
 etc.

Make sure you keep the valvetrain wet, street motors especialy need a good supply of oil up top.
At low rpm idle there can be very little oil splashing onto the cam and around the top of the engine. Any lack of oil means there's little to no lubrication and cooling effects on the cam, lifters, and springs. And since all of these parts tie together, if one's not getting enough oil, they will all suffer. Also Crower and some other companies offer options on their lifters to help provide additional oil lubrication. In the case of a solid flat tappet lifter there is a small diameter hole in the face of the lifter that provides added lubrication at the cam and lifter surface. On solid roller lifters there is a hole directly from the oil band to direct a constant stream of pressurized oil right to the lifters roller bearings. Both of these options deliver more oil to critical high load areas for improved cycle life.
