Vacuum to Mechanical Tri-Power Conversion Question
I'm curious to ask the experts if you have seen this style of 1964 mechanical tri-power conversion from a factory vacuum tri-power. The spring connection to the center carb is slightly different than any I’ve seen or any reproductions that are out there today. It’s a Royal Pontiac car that was restored in the mid 2000’s but retained most of the original parts and drivetrain. I think the conversion is original to 1964, just curious your thoughts.
I’m also curious if I have the rod & plunger orientation correct. It was reversed in all the old photos I have of the vehicle. Thanks! |

Looks like he older mechanical that I thought was discontinued in 64 in favor of the later style that was not as likely to be installed wrong.

I believe you need to switch carbs with the rod and plunger. On the rear carb, the plunger can, and did, separate from the rod at WOT and catch on the intake riser. NOT GOOD!! With the plunger on the rear carb, it is to long to catch and will just slide across the riser. Hope this makes sense!!!
When you are checking it out, you can separate the two and let them drop down at simulated WOT. You will see which way their might be a problem. "Bill"! |
